Background:
UNRWA introduced the Gender Initiative in 2008 to address the needs of Palestinian girls and women in the Gaza Strip. This comprehensive initiative is designed to improve the capacity of women and girls to exercise their freedom of choice, take advantage of opportunities for personal and professional development as well as to address inequality at all levels of social, economic and political life. At the core of the work of the Gender Initiative lies the commitment to support and empower the most vulnerable people in Gazan society.
Job:
The appointed Gender Facilitator will be responsible for providing gender trainings to students studying at the GTC. The training content will cover gender concepts and Gender-based Violence (GBV).The Gender Facilitator will be responsible for designing and preparing participatory training materials as well as designing a suitable M&E mechanisms for the course. The facilitator will report to the Gender Mainstreaming Officer, however administrative co-supervision will be provided by both GTC and Gender Unit.
The facilitator will have to work according to the agency standard daily working hours, i.e. 7.5 hours/day (37.5h/week), with an agreed work plan designed according to UNRWA office hours and GTC teaching schedule.
Tasks and responsibilities:
The Gender Facilitator is responsible for:
-Design a training course for GTC students per the project specifications and guidance from the Gender Unit;
-Implement gender training courses to GTC students;
-Quality assurance of the trainings, including raining agenda, manual and trainees’ satisfaction;
-Preparing and designing both qualitative and quantitative M&E tools for the training course;
-Prepare progress and final reports on the training activity as requested;
-Design and prepare training material as well as update materials when needed;
-Use existing reporting mechanism such as the GI server;
-Attend regular team meetings;
-Other shared tasks, as requested.
Qualification:
-A university degree from an accredited educational institution in Social Sciences or humanities especially in gender or women’s studies, human rights, or any other relevant degree;
-Advanced understanding of gender, gender-based violence, social construction of femininities and masculinities.
-Strong skills in English language;
-Strong computer skills;
-Excellent knowledge of participatory training techniques and tools;
-Proven ability to design training materials on gender related issues;
-Extensive proven experience in training youth groups;
-Experiences in M&E of trainings and result/data analysis;
Experience:
-Minimum of 5 years of working experience as a trainer on Gender and GBV, with at least 3 years with preparing and designing training materials
-At least 3 year of work experience in the UN, INGOs or other related international setting in tasks directly related to fieldwork; and
-Minimum of 3 years of work experience with issues relating to gender and/or women’s empowerment.
Language:
Strong command of spoken and written English and Arabic.
Competencies:
-Strong personal skills (ability to deal with different groups and categories.);
-Positive attitude and strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills;
-Good knowledge of participatory raining techniques;
-Proven ability to exercise initiative;
-Proficiency in using computer applications, including Excel, Access, and MS Word Major;
-Strong writing skills (including experience with producing reports and analysis reports) ;
-Highly motivated, comfortable taking initiative and able to work with minimum supervision;
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral;
-Displays good judgment to cultural, political and social differences.
Equivalency:
Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered.
Assessment method:
Qualified candidates will be required to undergo a competency based interview. Moreover, candidates may be required to participate in technical testing.
