UNRWA is the United Nations agency responsible for the protection, care and human development of a population of some 4.6 million Palestine refugees living in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. The Agency is committed to assisting Palestine refugees in maintaining a decent standard of living, acquiring appropriate knowledge and skills, enjoying the fullest possible extent of human rights, and leading a long and healthy life. UNRWA is by far the largest UN operation in the Middle East with over 29,000 staff. Most of the staff members are refugees themselves, working directly to benefit their communities – as teachers, doctors, nurses or social workers.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
-Provide general office assistance, respond, review, log and incoming and outgoing correspondence as appropriate.
-Maintain calendar/ schedules; monitor changes and communicate relevant information to appropriate staff members;
-Organization of regular and ad-hoc meetings; preparation of minutes and summaries of actions to be taken; tracking of progress on planned issues; follow -up with focal points;
-Maintenance of the filing system ensuring safekeeping of confidential materials
-Use of manual and electronic filing system;
-Coordination of the information flow in the office and dissemination communication to staff as required;
-Follow up on deadlines, commitments made, actions taken and coordination of collection and
submission of the reports
-Draft routine correspondence; translate documents, interoffice circulars, general briefing notes,
documents, reports and translations when required;
-Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
-University degree in business administration, public administration, accounting, commerce or related field.
-Ability to operate a PC using Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and Access)
-A Minimum of one year experience in administrative or secretarial work.
-Fluency in Arabic and English is essential.
-It is desirable to have ability to work within a team and ability to lead a team; Ability to work under
pressure; Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Proficiency in standard computer applications
used by the Agency; Responsiveness, i.e. troubleshooting, problem solving and fixing skills.
-Analytical and evaluation skills.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
-Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary varies from $ 773.60 to $ 1064.00 based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
-Contract Duration: six months. Extension is subject to continued need, availability of funds and satisfactory service.
-Leave: 30 days annual leave.
-A regular staff member can apply to this LDC post but will not be allowed to assume such post through secondment as he/she needs to leave his/her current post to accept LDC appointment.
