                                                    Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Assistant

For One month with a possibility of extension based on funds availability

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

The WASH Assistant will be responsible for the identification and collection of needs and requests and delivery of goods and services to alleviate the suffering of the people affected by the humanitarian crises in the Gaza Strip.

He/she will participate in and be responsible for different planning, management, and coordination with various actors: community volunteers, counterparts, activists.

He/she will support the general execution of activities by contributing with knowledge and experience to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the actions.

 KEY ACTIVITIES                                                                                                                                  

Objective 1: Participate to the identification of needs.  

1. Conduct data collection and registration of IDPs as relevant 
2. Conduct infrastructure (networks) and facilities (e.g., desalination plants) assessments mainly to identify the damage caused by the war and the repairs needed. 
3. Coordinate with daily workers and social workers hired to ensure data collection. 
4. Compile information received and ensured data entry or reporting as relevant on the data collected. 
5. Coordinate with other NGOS and/or WASH Cluster focal points if the assessment is done as part of the WASH Cluster. 

Objectives 2: Implements the WASH items and services’ delivery.  

1. Supervises water truckers’ execution and other services, ensuring their compliance with the agreed terms, technical quality, execution on time, and security measures.
2. Ensures that the delivery of supplies to rightsholders is in accordance with the required quantity, quality and timing and that rightsholders have the knowledge to use/maintain them. 
3. Ensures execution of WASH emergency interventions which can include, but are not limited to:

• Distribution of essential materials for household, baby, and family hygiene, accompanied by detailed guidance on proper management and significance.
• Collection, treatment, storage, transport and distribution of water.
• Water quality monitoring and training on treatment and safe storage.

4. Coordinates closely with IDP centers, camps and households hosting IDPs or any representative at the distribution points.
5. Ensures timely collection, transport and delivery of materials. 
6. Reports in a timely manner to his/her supervisor, proposing solutions to solve difficulties encountered and documents all project actions according to the necessary means of verification. Immediately informs his/her hierarchical and/or functional manager of any situation that is hindering or may hinder the proper development of the work, for the timely and joint making of the necessary corrective measures and decisions.
7. Generates technical reports on the progress of the activities in charge.
8. Collectsinformation of interest to the project.

Objective 3: Construction Supervision: 

1. Assist WASH Officer with supervision of WASH infrastructure construction and rehabilitation activities.
2. Preparation of working schedules 
3. Assist WASH Officer ensuring work is completed as agreed within the contract.
4. Ensure proper execution of WASH infrastructure interventions and support the FO in liaising with the contractor.

Such intervention can include, but are not limited to: 

• Rehabilitation, cleaning and disinfection of wells and boreholes.
• Construction, rehabilitation and improvement of handwashing, showers, drainage and sanitation facilities.
• Training technicians in the operation and maintenance of water and sanitation infrastructures.

Objective 4: Logistical and administrative management of the distribution and field activities under his/her charge. 

1. Coordinates with UN agencies and PRCS and any relevant actor for the timely collection, transport, and distribution of goods
2. Close coordination with transporters and service suppliers
3. Archives all means of verification and information (physical and electronic) of the different activities carried out within the project.
4. Schedule, together with the project's technical team, the weekly execution of activities in coordination with the other technical and support departments.
5. Delivers the information (physical and electronic) regularly and at the latest one week before the end of the execution of part of the project to the coordinator of the component.
6. Flag any difficulty or complaint received to its management and propose way to improve AAH delivery processes. 

Objective 5: Collaboration in security measures. 

1. Transmits in a timely manner all the necessary and complete information to guarantee safety in the areas of action.

• Civil Engineering or other engineering background preferred. Logistics, administration, social work a plus. 
• Knowledge of WASH infrastructure rehabilitation and construction works.
• Experience in emergency infrastructure construction and rehabilitation with NGOs is an asset.
• Minimum of 1 year of similar experience with an NGO or the UN or alternatively in the private sector. 
• Dynamism, ability to prioritize and plan.
• Honesty, humanitarian principles, communication skills, adaptability, spirit of teamwork.
• Arabic language. English strongly preferred but not required.
• Advanced command of Windows, Office, for information management and reports.
