Reporting to: Emergency WASH specialist

Starting Date: As Soon As Possible 

OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The WASH officer, reporting to the Emergency WASH Specialist, assists in developing and implementing the WASH program and strategy, performing assessment and technical analysis, developing technical guidelines and ensuring high quality of implementation of WASH activities. Additionally, the WASH Officer will represent WeWorld in relevant Clusters and in any relevant Working Group upon request of the line manager.

Present in 27 countries with more than 120 projects, WeWorld operates in the following areas of assistance: humanitarian aid (prevention, emergency relief and rehabilitation), food security, access to water, health and hygiene, education, human rights (gender equality, prevention and combating violence against children and women, migration), global citizenship education, quality teaching and international volunteering. WeWorld works mostly with girls, boys, women and youth, actors of change in every community for a fairer and more inclusive world. Since 2020, WeWorld has rapidly expanded its operations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, leading to a need for additional personnel to assist its current emergency operations, and to lead the future expansion in the development area.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Assessment

  • Assist in the collection and compilation of data for the WASH technical assessments, ensuring thorough and accurate data gathering.
  • Maintain organized records of assessment data and findings, ensuring they are accessible for team review and analysis.
  • Help in elaborating assessment reports, ensuring clarity and alignment with organizational standards.

Program Design

  • Support the elaboration of standards of procedures and guidelines
  • Provide adequate analysis of WASH gaps and vulnerabilities. Gather and organize technical data and information required for the WASH emergency response.
  • Support the implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems by collecting data and preparing summary reports, making recommendations for improvements as needed
  • Assist in the preparation of donor proposals, and reports
  • Assist in drafting strategy documents as per request
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the field team to ensure the efficient and high-quality implementation of WASH program activities, if requested by line manager.

Representation Support

  • Proactively represent WeWorld in WASH-related clusters, working groups and humanitarian response platforms as needed, taking notes and reporting back to the team.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with other NGOs and UN agencies to enhance collaboration and resource sharing within the WASH sector.
  • Help coordinate communication between WeWorld and local authorities, ensuring timely and accurate information exchange.
  • Ensure that WeWorld's visibility standards are maintained in all external communications and documentation.

Capacity Building:

  • Conduct training and capacity-building activities for field staff and partners to enhance their knowledge and skills, if requested by line manager.

Job Requirements

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in the field of civil/water engineering, or in public health with experience in the WASH sector
  • Fluency in written and spoken english
  • Valid and clean driving license

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant working experience in WASH programs in emergency
  • Proven experience in Project Cycle Management for emergency programs and interventions.
  • Proven experience in coordinating with Clusters and humanitarian technical working groups
  • Proven experience in coordinating and managing relationships with international and local partner organizations and UN agencies and local authorities

Skills and Abilities

  • Computer skills, in particular MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Project
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to think strategically and conceptually and to translate these into concrete results
  • Ability to identify, initiate and maintain good relationships with partner organizations
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple tasks while fostering quality, team spirit and positive working relationships with colleagues
  • Strong reporting and proposal writing skills are required.
