UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of
some 5 million registered Palestine refugees.

UNRWA is seeking to employ a qualified: Web Editor

UNRWA’s communications division HQ acts as the executive for all Agency-wide communications. The division directs and is responsible for the entirety of UNRWA’s public relations at a global and regional level.
A confident writer and editor with real attention to detail, you will ensure UNRWA’s web presence is high quality, relevant and user-focused, with a consistent tone throughout. As the organisation’s lead on all online projects, you must also have an excellent all-round understanding of websites, social media and usability issues.

As the Agency is currently in the process of redeveloping and redesigning its website on a new Drupal-based content management system, the Web Editor will be the Communications Division’s lead on liaising with the contracted developer to ensure the Agency’s priorities are met.
DURATION The position is for one year extendable with initial three-month probationary period.
Start Date: 19 November 2012

The incumbent of this position will:
-Manage UNRWA’s website and social media presence
-Planning, writing and editing compelling content for UNRWA’s online channels, ensuring a consistently high editorial standard
-Regularly review content across site, ensuring it is up-to-date and accurate
-Publish content to site using content management system
-Make recommendations and manage implementation of improvements to improve design and functionality
-Liaise with web developer to ensure a website redevelopment that meets the priorities identified by Agency stakeholders
-Train and support staff in how to use CMS
-Supervise English and Arabic webmasters to ensure all sites reflect the correct content
-Liaise with staff in UNRWA’s five fields of operation to obtain up-to-date web content, stories, videos, photos, etc
-Produce email newsletter targeting individual donors
-Work with external programmers on technical improvements and training
-Analyse web statistics and produce monthly reports
-Provide web communications guidance to colleagues throughout the organization
-Perform other duties as required, including media relations

COMPETENCIES
-University-level education (BA minimum) or equivalent work experience
-Mother-tongue level written and spoken English
-Extensive proven experience of writing for the web and social media
-Excellent copy-editing skills and meticulous attention to detail
-Experience using content management systems
-Excellent general understanding of web technology and strong all-round computer skills
-Excellent understanding of web site structure, effective navigation and search engine optimization as well as web usability and user-centred design
-Familiar with online video publishing, social media and emerging technologies
-Good working knowledge of image editing software (Adobe Photoshop or similar) and HTML
-Strong organisational skills (ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks)
-Highly motivated, comfortable taking initiative and able to work with minimum supervision
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
-Proven ability to work in a multi-cultural setting.
-Displays good judgement to political and cultural sensitivities

DESIRABLE
-Experience creating email newsletter
-Web project management experience
-Knowledge of Adobe Flash, Dreamweaver, Illustrator
-Experience working on a multilingual website
