Position Title: Youth Care Co Worker
Working Location: Bethlehem
Status: Full Time / ability to stay during day/night shifts
Contract Type: Limited Contract
Mission of the position:
The youth care Youth Care coworker is responsible for accompanying male children and young people in growing up in a secure way, guiding the individual development of young people towards independence and becoming self-autonomous and participating members of society. He/she works within the framework of SOS Children’s Villages organization standards and guidelines and the child rights-based approach. The Youth Care coworker plays a key role in guiding individual young people, accompanies them through their career and contributes to the quality of youth care. Together with young people the YCCW creates an environment where young people can develop life skills, resilience and responsibility for themselves.
Main clients:
- Referred children/young people
- Youth care coordinator, SOS parents, SFC Coordinator, Child development co-workers, CV Programme Director
· National Office staff with responsibilities regarding quality of care, human resources and sponsorships
- External stakeholders (schools/educational institutions, employers, doctors, therapists, state authorities etc.)
- Biological/extended families
Key performance areas and main responsibilities:
Guide the personal development of the young people
- Ensures participation of young people in individual development/case management process
- Builds up emotional bonds and stability with young people (particularly for non-SOS CV youth)
- Supports young people to develop identity, sense of self-worth, skills for regulating emotions
- Supports the young people in taking on responsibility for their own lives in developing team spirit and social skills. The Youth Care Empowerment Development offers tailor-made youth care activities
- Supports young people in dealing with health-care services
Create contact opportunities with young people’s biological family, SOS family & community
- Supports young people in maintaining and building reliable and long-term relationships
- Maintains ongoing contact and cooperation with the SOS family members etc.
- Encourages ongoing contact with young person’s family of origin (in best interest of youth)
- Assists the integration of young people into the community by maintaining social networks which are appropriate to their age, talents, interests and skills
Support the educational and career development of the young people
- Supports to identify relevant courses/trainings and encourages participation
- Prepares the young persons for autonomously finding a job and supports in establishing contacts with local companies
- Assists the young people to establish and maintain a secure financial situation
Fulfil administration and managing duties
- Supports the young people in administration issues and ensures that all daily administrative routines in the youth facility/youth care programme are carried out
- Fosters and participates in team work and cooperation with other co- workers
Child Safeguarding (CS)
- Responsible within own area of work to raise awareness of the SOS Child Protection Policy principles and to prevent and protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination
- Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the IOR CS focal person and/or to the respective line manager
- Ensures strong focus on CS prevention by organising informal and formal discussions, workshops and other capacity buildings activities for young people to make them understand CS risks and protection mechanisms

Key skills and qualifications for the position:
Must Criteria
· Demonstrate the ability to stay during day/night shifts in FLC unit houses.
· Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Counselling/Social Work/Mental Health/Education or any related field.
· At least 1-2 years’ experience working directly with caregivers and children’s survivors of violence.
· Ability to write reports in both Arabic and English Languages.
· Have skills in adminsitrative follow ups such as planning, evaluation handling budgets of individual plans for young people (males).
· Age must be above 25 years old
Competencies – knowledge, skills, abilities
· good knowledge of child, youth, family development
· good knowledge of national child care legislation and child’s rights
· strong and highly effective interpersonal, listening and communication skills, both written and verbal
· demonstrates a high level of empathy/emotional intelligence particularly working with young people and adolescents
· understanding and knowledge of subjects relating specifically to the care of adolescents (e.g. sexual health, HIV/Aids, relationships)
· ability to work in a busy and pressurised environment
· high level of personal responsibility and integrity
· good knowledge and understanding of the local and national culture and background
· ICT skills including working knowledge of Microsoft tools
· ability to present professionally and effectively both on 1:1 and large groups basis.
