PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
Mercy Corps (MC) is a non-profit, non-aligned, secular non-governmental (NGO) humanitarian relief and development organization, registered in the United States and Scotland with offices in more than 40 countries around the world, including the West Bank and Gaza, where the organization has been active in implementing relief and development programs for nearly a decade. Mercy Corps ‘West Bank and Gaza’ has staff based in East Jerusalem and Gaza City offices that implement programs throughout the Palestinian territories.
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
Mercy Corps has implemented sport programs in Gaza since 2009 with funding from a range of donors. Mercy Corps new youth in sport program, an integral part of the Palestinian Community Assistance Program funded by USAID, Mercy Corps youth in sports program, aims to improve mental, social and physical development of adolescents (12-18 yrs. old) and Youth with Disability (YWD) through engaging them in psycho-social sport-based activities that build their life skills. Also, YIS enhances the capacities of local CBOs/SCs to implement youth development programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1-Contributes towards developing work plans and follow up of implementation of ongoing program activities.
2-Coordinates all activities with the local sport clubs and CBOs.
3-Carrying out the selection of sports clubs and youth-oriented CBOs to participate in the program.
4-Identifies, in coordination with the sports clubs and CBOs, relevant sports activities in the Gaza Strip.
5-Organizes sports events and tournaments in coordination with sports clubs and CBOs in a high quality manner ensuring work plans and timelines are followed.
6-Responsible for following up and tracking the implementation of raising awareness activities starting from home visits, distribution of raising awareness material and awareness workshops for parents ensuring work plans and timelines are followed. .
7-Following up and coordinating the Moving Forward Curriculum Joint activities and tracking their supplies (Refreshment and transportation) including open days, career counseling awareness for parents, career counseling days for older teens
8-Mainly responsible for mentors’ selection process in different CBOs in the Gaza Strip to be trained in Mercy Corps Gaza-specific curriculum to teach life, cooperation and conflict management skills.
9-Contributes to capacity building of CBO staff, therefore, together with other Mercy Corps team members, organizes relevant training.
10-Responsible for tracking and approving MC provided supply to local CBOs including refreshment, furniture, and sport supplies.
11-Supervising beneficiaries’ selection process in local CBOs starting from advertising to application filtering and final selection.
12-Supervise the daily of local CBOs YIS project staff and provide any relevant action in regard to performance management.
13-Assists in the development of a Gaza-specific curriculum for use by the sports clubs and CBOs, drawing from the Moving Forward curriculum which uses participatory games-based methodologies to teach life, cooperation, and conflict management skills.
14-Responsible for following up building capacity activities starting from need assessment to the training/consultancy for CBOs
15-Generate verbal and written translations of pertinent project documentation as needed/required.
16-Assists in relevant (external and internal) program activity evaluations and/or needs assessments.
17-Regularly reports on project implementation/ progress to Program Officer.
18-Liaises and coordinates with other Mercy Corps departments as needed.
19-Performance of work beyond normal office hours as required, without additional compensation.
20-Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
21-Any other duties as required by the Program Officer or Program Manager.

ACCOUNTABILITY:
REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Program Officer
WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: YIS Program Manager, YIS Program Officer, YIS Program Coordinators, HR, Admin, Finance, Procurement, Logistics, Compliance, DM&E.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
1-University degree in psychology, social sciences, management, community development or any other related field.
2-At least two years of work experience in non-governmental organization management sector .
3-Understanding of the social, political, and economic context of Palestinian territories, especially in the Gaza Strip.
4-Understanding of the development assistance field, including international non-governmental organizations and funding agencies regulations.
5-Very Good writing skills in English and Arabic.
6-Proficiency in MS Office.
