UNRWA is the United Nations agency responsible for the protection, care and human development of a population of some 4.6 million Palestine refugees living in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
- Performs the full range of laboratory services including biochemistry, hematology, serology, routine (urine and stool examination) and bacteriology;
- Ensures accuracy and completeness of laboratory information in the computerized health information system (e-Health);
- Maintains laboratory equipment, supplies and reagents;
- At Health Centres without Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist and Medical Laboratory Technologist:
- Prepares estimates of requirements for replenishment of consumable supplies;.
- Prepares the monthly and annual laboratory statistical report;
- Reviews and analyzes quality control results (internal and external) and makes the necessary intervention;
- Performs such other duties as may be required.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
- Full secondary education.
- Completion of two-year diploma of medical laboratory technician from a recognized institution.
- Possession of a license to practice laboratory services (where applicable)
- At least two years’ experience in providing medical laboratory services.
- Experience in the use of computers and an understanding of their use in health applications.
- Good command of written and spoken English and Arabic.
- Good communication skills and maintains effective working relationships with staff and clients.
- Good organizational skills and ability to work under pressure and cope with heavy workload.
- Adequate computer skills.
- Self-motivated and shows willingness to learn from others.
- Acts in accordance with the professional ethics and values.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
- The monthly basic salary $795.40; and monthly dependency allowance $18.65 and Group Medical Insurance GMI $12.00.
- Contract Duration: six months extension is subject to funds availability, continuing need and satisfactory performance.
- Pension: Provident Fund contribution.
- Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.
EQUIVALENCY
When the minimum requirements are not fully met, the Director of Human Resources; in consultation with the Director of UNRWA Operations, Gaza may exceptionally substitute part of the unmet requirements with a combination of relevant academic qualifications, additional professional training and progressive relevant work experience.
NB: Work experience alone or formal qualifications with no relevant work experience are not considered an acceptable combination.
