UNRWA is the United Nations agency responsible for the protection, care and human development of a population of some 4.6 million Palestine refugees living in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
- Gathers needed information; produces a series of success stories, fact sheets, “lessons learned” papers, newsletters and other external relations materials which showcase program accomplishments;
- Researches, writes and distributes all media materials and news releases, and promotes positive coverage of RSSP activities. Supervises the collection and processing of data, and ensures quality oversight and maintenance of the database;
- Manages the day-to-day media relations work including all media enquiries and media information; and for queries from Area Offices to the Front Office;
- Acts as a focal point in the department for the Reporting and Information Officer in the DUO/G’s office;
- Enhances inter-departmental co-ordination as well as co-ordination with other UNRWA’s departments and external similar service provider;
- Ensures the department’s operational information is updated and disseminated on a regular basis with the DUO’s office;
- Prepares departmental meetings’ minutes for distribution in Arabic and English;
- Ensures the distribution of relevant information to all department staff, both in the GFO and the area offices and assists Division Heads in information gathering for regular reporting.
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
- University degree in English language, public relations, journalism or related fields.
- Two years’ related professional experience particularly in connection with reporting skills.
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Ability to plan and priorities own work, well under tight deadlines and handle multiple concurrent activities
- Positive attitude and strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven ability to exercise initiative
- Proficiency in using compute applications.
- Ability to complete basic English – Arabic/Arabic - English translations
- Demonstrated research and information gathering and analysis skills
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
- Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $1,334.50 plus monthly dependency allowance $18.65 and Group Medical Insurance GMI $12.00.
- Contract Duration: Six months (Extension is subject to continued need, availability of funds and satisfactory service.
- Leave: 30 days annual leave.
- Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.
- A regular staff member can apply to this LDC post but will not be allowed to assume such post through Secondment as he/she needs to leave his/her current post to accept LDC appointment. This
EQUIVALENCY
When the minimum requirements are not fully met, the Director of UNRWA Operations, Gaza may exceptionally substitute part of the unmet requirements with a combination of relevant academic qualifications, additional professional training and progressive relevant work experience.
NB: Work experience alone or formal qualifications with no relevant work experience are not considered an acceptable combination.
