JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate is responsible to Field Programme Support Officer.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
-Analyses and reports statistical data of socio-economic nature, as gathered from national research
institutes as well as relevant data on UNRWA regular and emergency programmes in the relevant Field through standard statistical software (e.g. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences-SPSS);
-Assists in the production and design of tabulations and questionnaires, determines sampling method for questionnaires and produces necessary charts and graphs for internal reports and studies as required in relations with HQ, donors and other UN Agencies;
-Statistically analyses data gathered through questionnaires, focus groups and other Programme related data using tools like: data cleaning, standardization/categorizing of collected data, statistical graphics and indices, and SPSS;
-Conducts structured and semi-structured interviews and facilities Focus Group Discussions during filed studies;
-Coordinates with representatives of research institutes for completion of studies and maintains regular contacts with national institutes of statistics and other UN Agencies;
-Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
-A university degree in statistics, economics, applied mathematics or a related social or management science discipline with a significant statistical, quantitative analysis and research methods component.
-At least four years experience in the application of statistical knowledge in an operational, academic or government research context.
-Excellent command of spoken and written English.
-Proven statistical and ability to process statistical data using SPSS or other statistical packages;
-Excellent computer knowledge and skills in the use of SPSS and/or other statistical, spreadsheet or graphics software;
-Familiarity with academic institutions, UN Agencies/International Organizations and Palestinian Central Bureau of Statics (PCBS);
-Ability to work under pressure and within a team.
-It’s desirable to have in-depth knowledge of UNRWA’s operations and programmes in the oPt.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
-Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $1397.20 ; plus a currency adjustment factor (present rate 8.82%).
-Contract Duration: twelve months. Extension is subject to continued need, availability of funds and
satisfactory service.
-Leave: 30 days annual leave.
-Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.
-A regular staff member can apply to this LDC post but will not be allowed to assume such post through secondment as he/she needs to leave his/her current post to accept LDC appointment.
EQUIVALENCY
Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered

Where there are two or more equally qualified candidates, selection preference will normally be given to internal candidates, Palestine Refugees and candidates of the under-represented gender. An internal candidate with a temporary-indefinite or fixed-term appointment selected for this post will retain his/her current contractual status and entitlements in accordance with current letter of appointment and applicable Area Staff Rules. With their prior agreement, candidates who are approved as suitable for appointment but are not the selected candidate for this vacancy, will be placed on the Agency’s roster of pre-approved candidates for a period of up to one year, and may be considered for future vacancies in the same position.
The Agency maintains the discretion to fill future vacancies for this position from the roster without readvertising the vacancy.
