MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
-Provides vision screening exams (including visual acuity D. and N., focusing skills, eye tracking and fixation, binocular vision and fusion, steriopis, vergence and convergence test, colour test, reversal frequency, visual memory, visual discrimination test, visual motor integration test, etc.)
-Examines eyes and performs various tests (including Fundus exam) to determine visual acuity and perception corrective lenses or procedures,
-Educates and counsels patients on visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors for the eyes.
-Consults with and refers patients to Ophthalmologist and/or school health doctor, and health centre Medical Officer, if additional medical treatment is needed.
-Referral of student with error of refraction to the contracted centers in order to be provided with eyeglasses ,receiving ,distribution and follow up of wearing eyeglasses.
-Updates information and enters data using software applications.
-Prepares monthly reports on eyeglasses provision.
-Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
-A university degree in Optometric Science of four years duration from an institution recognized by UNRWA.
-A valid governmental license to practice work in the Gaza Field.
-At least two years of satisfactory professional working experience as Optometrist.
-Good command of spoken and written English.
-Ability to work under pressure.
-Excellent computer skills.
-Excellent organizational and communication skills.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE- LDC
-Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $ 708.80; plus a currency adjustment factor (present rate 18%).
-Contract Duration: Six months. Extension is subject to continued need, availability of funds and satisfactory service.
-Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.
-A regular staff member can apply to the LDC post but will not be allowed to assume such post through secondment as he/she needs to leave his/her current post to accept LDC appointment
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE- SSA
-Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $ 730.00;
-Contract Duration: Six months. Extension is subject to continued need, availability of funds and satisfactory service.
-Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.

Where there are two or more equally qualified candidates, selection preference will normally be given to internal candidates, Palestine Refugees and candidates of the under-represented gender. An internal candidate with a temporary-indefinite or fixed-term appointment selected for this post will retain his/her current contractual status and entitlements in accordance with current letter of appointment and applicable Area Staff Rules. With their prior agreement, candidates who are approved as suitable for appointment but are not the selected candidate for this vacancy, will be placed on the Agency’s roster of pre-approved candidates for a period of up to one year, and may be considered for future vacancies in the same position.
The Agency maintains the discretion to fill future vacancies for this position from the roster without readvertising the vacancy.
