UNRWA is the United Nations agency responsible for the protection, care and human development of a population of some 4.6 million Palestine refugees living in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. The Agency is committed to assisting Palestine refugees in maintaining a decent standard of living, acquiring appropriate knowledge and skills, enjoying the fullest possible extent of human rights, and leading a long and healthy life. UNRWA is by far the largest UN operation in the Middle East with over 29,000 staff. Most of the staff members are refugees themselves, working directly to benefit their communities – as teachers, doctors, nurses or social workers.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
-Designs and implements evaluation methodologies to measure the impact of various interventions done by CMHP staff; develops evaluation and intervention research papers to help in setting up the strategic objectives of the programme;
-Is responsible for evaluation of various activities performed by CMHP staff, including capacity building, using standardized scientific approaches; assists CMHP staff in the submission of scientific articles to international peer reviewed journals; trains staff on subjects related to research and surveys conducted as needed;
-Develops and supervises the monitoring and evaluation system for the CHMP including plans and activities; manages and develops the mental health database to produce needed statistical indicators;
-Establishes and designs surveys for screening the refugee population for various mental health issues and other intersecting fields; follows up implementation and evaluation of various interventions;
-Coordinates with counterparts at Education, Health, Relief and Social Services, and other Agency programmes to assess the mental health needs of served refugees;
-Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
-University degree in psychology, social work and/ or health professions
-At least four years of experience in monitoring and evaluation mental health, health, or psychosocial activities, projects and / or programmes;
-Excellent written and spoken English;
-Advanced computer skills especially with database programmes;
-Excellent research and analytical skills;
-Knowledge in statistical programmes including SPSS;
-Excellent communication skills;
-Knowledge of standard scientific journals procedures for publications;
-The incumbent should be working throughout Gaza Strip and may be required to travel outside;
-Possession of valid driving license;
-It is desirable to have health professionals with suitable experience and qualification;

-It is also desirable to have advanced degree in public health or mental health if the BA in psychology,
-social work or health professions;

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $1, 315.00, plus monthly dependency allowance up to $123.25 and a
currency adjustment factor (present rate 4.14%).
-Contract Duration: Three years including 1 year probation period.
-Leave: 30 days annual leave
-Pension: Provident Fund contribution
-Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.

EQUIVALENCY
Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and
progressive work experience may also be considered.

ASSESSMENT METHOD
Qualified candidates will be required to undergo tests and a competency based interview.
