Fire Safety Officer

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, the incumbent will:
-Conducts fire prevention and safety inspections and assessments of the UNRWA installations in the Office's area(s) of responsibility.
-Creates inspection/assessment tools based and/or adapts existing tools for use at UNRWA facilities.
-Discusses any concerns with relevant personnel and management.
-Conducts follow-up inspections to ensure deficiencies were corrected.
-Serves as the Field Office's fire and safety focal point.
-Handles fire and safety related administrative, planning, and reporting duties.
-Liaises with eternal fire, safety, and emergency response agencies.
-Obtains details from and/or reports on any investigation of UNRWA fire and safety incidents, and follows up as needed on any recommendations or findings.
-Conducts first aid, fire safety & prevention, fire fighting, mass casualty, and emergency response training and drills.
-Researches and reviews fire safety and emergency best practices and procedures.
-Creates presentation materials.
-Conducts awareness briefings and event/incident debriefings with staff.
-Plans and leads fire and emergency evacuation drills.
-Coordinates drills and activities with emergency service providers such as the government's Directorate of Civil Defence.
-Conducts fire safety and equipment training-of-trainers.
-Ensures general fire safety and emergency awareness.
-Develops and ensures distribution, awareness, and/or display of evacuation and emergency plans, procedures, and signage
-Works with the translator to ensure all awareness materials are available in Arabic and English.
-Advises staff on fire and safety matters.
-Manages facility fire and safety equipment and physical structures.
-Ensures fire extinguishers, alarm systems, fire suppressions systems, and first aid kits are properly inspected, maintained, and labeled
-Ensures building evacuation routes are labeled and unobstructed.
-Supervises the maintenance contractor for safety
-Enforces Office and installation fire safety and emergency response policies and protocols.
-Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
-Bachelor’s degree in a related field
-Good practical knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
-Minimum of two years relevant technical experience.
-Previous training experience.
-Proven writing and communication skills.
-Excellent spoken and written English, native or near native level.
-Strong interpersonal and organizational capabilities: Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and backgrounds.
-Able to work on own initiative, within a group/team atmosphere.
-Must be flexible and able to accommodate multiple or competing demands.
-Strong writing and communication skills.
-It is desirable to have a previous fire fighting and/or Emergency Response Team experience or related certification(s).
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
-Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $ 1,039.80;
-Contract Duration: Six months only.
-Leave: 2.5 day per month.
ASSESSMENT METHOD
