JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate is responsible to the Chief Field Education Programme on all managerial and technical matters.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
-Assists and advises the Chief Field Education Programme in the planning and supervision of all matters related to developmental activities in the Field Education Programme and supervises the preparation of the Biennial Work Plan at the Field level;
-Provides technical guidance to Area Education Officers, Head EDCs, Education Specialists, School
Principals and Teachers through meetings or circulars, and evaluates the efficiency of the performance of these staff and other senior staff in the School Education Programme (other than Chief Field Education Programme);
-Prepares the biennium operational plan, including input required for the budget preparation, of the Field Education Programme.
-Prepares class formations in accordance with the norms established by the Agency and is responsible for the assignment of teaching posts within the field;
-Ensures effective implementation of human rights activities in UNRWA schools, VTCs and ensures that all supplementary materials provided to schools are free of all types of violence and discrimination as well as political and ideological biases;
-Ensures the effective monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the curriculum in UNRWA
schools;
-Drafts recommendations and proposals to be submitted to Field Director, Director of Education, Chief, Field Education Programme concerning improvements in quality of school education programme;
-Acts as a Chief, Field Education Programme during the latter’s absence;
-Performs such other duties as may be assigned;

PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
-An advanced university degree from accredited university in education or in any subject taught at
UNRWA schools;
-A post-graduate diploma in teacher education or any relevant, equivalent professional training.
-A minimum of ten years teaching experience at any level;
-A minimum of six years experience in an education management post.
-Excellent command of written and spoken English and Arabic.
-An ability to work in a professional, calm, competent and committed manner;
-Excellent oral and written communication skills in both Arabic and English;
-Ability to adjust work or project priorities to take account of changing circumstances;
-Ability to both form teams and work as part of team
-Ensuring the effective and efficient use of technology in the delivery of education
-It’s desirable to have Ph.D. in education or in any related subject;
-It’s desirable to have Awareness of up-to-date educational innovations both locally and internationally;

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
-Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $1,620.80; plus monthly dependency allowance up to $123.25 and Senior Professional Officer Allowance at the rate of 35% of the basic salary.
-Contract Duration: Three years including 1 year probation period.
-Leave: 30 days annual leave
-Pension: Provident Fund contribution
-Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.

Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered

With their prior agreement, candidates who are approved as suitable for appointment but are not the selected candidate for this vacancy, will be placed on the Agency’s roster of pre-approved candidates for a period of up to one year, and may be considered for future vacancies in the same position.
The Agency maintains the discretion to fill future vacancies for this position from the roster without readvertising the vacancy.
