LEGAL RESEARCHER, AL-HAQ

Al-Haq, the West Bank affiliate of the International Commission of Jurists, Geneva, is currently seeking to fill a one-year fixed-term contract position for a Legal Researcher. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) and is based in Ramallah. The Legal Researcher will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the Legal Research and Advocacy Unit.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Draft interventions, press releases, and other written advocacy materials on violations of international human rights and humanitarian law in the OccupiedPalestinianTerritory (OPT).

2. Develop research proposals.

3. Carry out research in close consultation with direct supervisor and undertake related advocacy activities.

4. Contribute to substantive internal discussions on points of law and strategy concerning violations of international human rights and humanitarian law in the OPT.

5. Represent Al-Haq at meetings and conferences locally and abroad.

6. Brief visiting delegations on the human rights situation in the OPT.

7. Participate in Legal Research and Advocacy unit staff meetings and annual planning processes.

8. Participate in organisational staff meetings and strategic planning meetings.

Professional Qualifications:

·          JD, LLB or equivalent and a Master’s degree in law.

·          Academic coursework in international human rights and humanitarian law.

·          At least (4) years of advocacy, research or litigation experience in the field of human rights.

·          Demonstrated ability to analyse and synthesis information quickly into clear and concise

        written materials used for advocacy and/or litigation purposes.

·          Attention to details.

·          Able to meet firm deadlines.

·          Fluent spoken and written English and Arabic, knowledge of Hebrew is a plus.

·          Excellent communication skills and ability to deliver presentations with ease.

·          Knowledge of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

·          Computer proficiency.

·          Management experience is a plus.
