Call for Papers

Background
The Jerusalem Human Rights Consortium (JHRC) is a consortium of four leading Palestinian human rights organizations native in Jerusalem – The Jerusalem Legal Aid and Human Rights Centre (JLAC), The Land Research Centre (LRC), The Saints Yves Association (St Yves) and the Women’s Centre for legal Aid and Counselling (WCLAC).

The consortium has started the implementation of the project Protecting Marginalized Communities in East Jerusalem through legal aid, planning and advocacy, funded by the EU East Jerusalem Programme. The overall objective of the project is to support the marginalised Palestinian communities in East Jerusalem, increase their resilience, prevent forcible transfer and reinforce the Palestinian identity of East Jerusalem through the provision of legal aid, land planning assistance, and local and international advocacy efforts.
In partnership with Palestinian and European organisations, JHRC is organising a multi-day Civil Society Forum that will gather the principal human rights actors active in Palestine and Europe in order to address several key challenges. The event is to be held from 4 to 9 November in Ramallah.

Overview
JHRC is assembling up to fifteen papers to be presented in the framework of the event. The topics of the position papers have been selected through a consultation process with partner organisations and are related to the themes of the project Protecting Marginalized Communities in East Jerusalem through legal aid, planning and advocacy. The call for position papers is open to researchers and experts based in Palestine and Europe.
The call is seeking submissions related to the following topics:

• Advocacy for Palestine: Challenges and creative solution
• Environment, Planning & Urban space
• Legal Framework & Legal Action in Jerusalem, Area C & Israel
• Settlements and annexation
• Media, Journalism & Freedom of Speech
• Academic Freedom
• Shrinking space in Palestine
• Shrinking space in Europe
• Shrinking space in Israel
• Media, Journalism & Freedom of Speech
• Academic Freedom
• Shrinking space in Palestine
• Shrinking space in Europe
• Shrinking space in Israel

Other related topics will also be considered.

Please submit your abstract of no more than 350 words and in English by filling in this form. Deadline for abstract submission (max 350 words) is 08 October 2022, 23:59hrs UTC/GMT +2:00 hours.
We encourage you to invite colleagues to participate in the event and submit original research for the call for papers.
