Young women Christian association of Palestine

Conducting an External Evaluation

Tender No.22/060

8th November 2022

For the Project “Strengthening Young Women to be Change Agents in the Palestinian Society 2”, Implemented by the YWCA of Palestine in partnership with YWCA-YMCA Sweden and funded by SMC

Background

The YWCA of Palestine is a non-governmental association initiated in 1893 by informal groups of Christian women and was formally established in Jerusalem in 1918. We envision a free and democratic civil society where women and youth are empowered to exercise and protect their political, economic, and social rights. The YWCA of Palestine has three thematic areas of work: Leadership Development and Civic Engagement, Economic Justice, and Just Peace. We are a rights-based association where all our programs and advocacy are based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

We believe that young people are the agents of change and given the right opportunities and support, they can build a brighter future for all that promotes freedom and justice. We thus aim to empower women, young women and girls through enhancing their accessibility to educational and cultural activities, creating and developing economic opportunities, raising awareness, and advocating for their individual and national rights. We also focus on providing young people with leadership and representation opportunities within the Palestinian society. These include advocacy campaigns and tools within the Joint Advocacy Initiative (JAI) of the YWCA of Palestine and the East Jerusalem YMCA.

The YWCA of Palestine is affiliated with the World YWCA, a global movement working for the empowerment of women, young women, and girls in over 100 countries and has a special consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). YWCA member associations around the world share one bold and transformative goal:

“By 2035, 100 million young women and girls will transform power structures to create justice, gender equality and a world without violence and war; leading a sustainable YWCA movement, inclusive of all women.”
