Enhancing ICT Companies by upskilling software developers in Gaza Strip 

About PITA

The Palestinian Information Technology Association of Companies (PITA) represents more than 150 major ICT companies in Palestine’s emerging technology and start-up ecosystem. PITA thus has become the driving force in advancing the ICT sector’s interests, and the leading information source about this sector in Palestine. PITA also is the representative body that enables and ensures collaboration with the ICT private companies in Palestine.

Accordingly, PITA is running several projects under each pillar of the strategy to further establish the ICT community with the vision of a thought leader and a principal fixture in the make-up of the technology industry scene in Palestine.

Project Background

Enhancing ICT Companies by upskilling software developers in Gaza Strip project is a flexible and customized training and career accelerating program aiming to improve the supply pipeline in the software developers market, improve the programmers’ technological and knowledge level, and bring them to the high technological level that qualifies them to join the Software companies and work to improve the level of work and services provided by companies, as the project training topic will design according to the need that came from software companies PITA.

This project has been designed differently based on the actual need for technologies and skills for companies (Python, React Native, Node Js., Asp.net Core), the project contains two main components, training, and hosting. In the first component, training sessions will have a practical project as much as possible and trainers will be like supervisors. In the second component, participants will be hosted at companies to continue their learning in a real job environment.

This project design is based on integrating companies as contributors to the project through their participation in each phase such as the design of technical training materials to be closer to the practical\ working approach and the actual needs, and participation in the selection of trainees and trainers, which makes the system integrated and achieving the project goals, which achieve the increasing the programmers' skills (trainees) and increase the productivity of these companies, enhancing their continuity and resilience, and increasing their contribution to the local economy.

Therefore, this project aims to match between ICT market needs (companies' skills needed- ) and programmers' qualifications (up to 60-70 programmers ) by supporting  Youth in the ICT sector and enhancing technological experience, by getting high-tech training that consists of job-specific Employability, Business English and technical skills training (4-5 topics), then the top trainees will be hosted in companies participating in this project for 3 months, where the trainees will get monthly pocket money as incentives,  in addition to networking opportunity with future employers (companies).

Under the framework of this project, PITA is seeking a qualified Training company to provide (20H) employability skills and (30H) Business English training in Palestinian Information and Communication Technology Incubator- PICTI. This Activity is part of the training component, supported by UNDP.

The training shall be provided to 60 trainees of a targeted group, separated into 4 groups, through two phases:

1- Employability skills training (20 training hours):

  • Email and Formal writing (3H).
  • Reporting Skills(5H), will include: the kinds of reports, how to write the reports, …etc
  • Business Planning (5H), will include:
  • Working skills (7H), will include: Negotiation skills, Research Strategy, Research ways and place, task management tools, Teamwork, communication skills…et

2- Business English training ( 30 training hours)

  • The principle of technical writing (short business emails, reports, and making notes on simple topics. (8H)
  • Know how to apply for jobs and have a successful job interview (4H)
  • Know how to give oral presentations/ simple presentations/demonstrations. (4H)
  • Communication skills with formal and informal person “Customer, Manager, Donor …. Etc.) (8H)
  • Different and distinctive topics (6H), trainer space to determine the best practice

PITA is considering the selection of a professional and a highly qualified training Company to be part of the project team, company has the strong experience to develop and deliver the training topics mentioned above, and PITA will recruit a training Company to provide the Training for 60 trainees divided into four groups (each group has 15 trainees).
