CONSULTANCY TO CONDUCT ASSESSMENT OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLE VALUE CHAIN OPPORTUNITIES FOR GAZA'S AGRI-FOOD BUSINESS, PALESTINE.

Action Against Hunger (AAH) is an international humanitarian organization founded in 1979 with the aim of combating hunger. AAH has been working in the occupied Palestinian territory since 2002 - currently with operational offices in Jerusalem, Gaza City, and Hebron. In Gaza, AAH - implements programs in the sectors of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WASH), Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL responses. Through its interventions, AAH aims to protect lives, promote capacities of Palestinian communities, and transform system to influence decision making.
Promote Economic Opportunities, Psychosocial Support and Livelihoods Engagement (PEOPLE) is an 18-month project, funded by the European Union. The project action focus on economic and social recovery in the Gaza Strip by a consortium composed of Action Against Hunger (AAH), as lead-applicant, and three partners, namely the University College of Applied Sciences (UCAS), the Palestinian Agriculture Relief Committees (PARC) and Association for Woman and Child Protection (AISHA).The project focuses on agricultural production and related infrastructures; agri-food business support and establishment; employability programs for young graduates through business incubators and collaboration with the private sector. The intervention also addresses the mental and psychosocial needs of targeted populations affecting capacities to integrate and maintain economic activities (under the Mental health Psychosocial Support -MHPSS-component). Ultimately, this intervention supports individuals and community resilience.
Action Against Hunger – Palestinian Territory (Gaza Strip) intends to award an external consultant to assess various potential sub-sectors or value chains within the agricultural sector (fruits and vegetables) to is to provide the project with evidence-based information to feed sustainable development strategies. The requested study should shedlight on impact, uncovers main pathways, and identifies at which stages of the chain and for which actors, investment and support can generate benefits, eliminate drawbacks and constraints and foster sustainability and inclusiveness.
*Eligible consultants must have Bachelor or master degree in agriculture required, preferably with specialization in agribusiness, with at least 10 years’ experience in applied research and development, studies development, and evaluations, at least 8 years of direct experience in the fields of agriculture and business development, practical experience in conducting value chain analyses in a post-conflict environment, preferably in OPt., good understanding of agricultural and rural development from both development cooperation and private sector perspective, have a valid career license.
