Legal Consultant - Gaza

Overview:

SOS Children's Villages Palestine (hereafter: SOS Palestine) has been active in the Palestinian Territories since 1966 and is registered locally there as a non-profit, non-governmental organization. The national office of SOS Palestine is located in Bethlehem and projects and programs are implemented in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The main focus of the work is the placement of children and adolescents in a family environment (SOS Children's Village) and community-based programs on education, health, and psychosocial and economic empowerment of families. Another focus is capacity building of local community structures and community-based support mechanisms for vulnerable families. SOS Palestine's activities are largely funded by SOS Children's Villages worldwide and other SOS Association.

A three-year project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is under implementation by SOS Palestine in West Bank and Gaza Strip with the main objective to strengthening gender equality and protection of children from violence.

Objective:

SOS Palestine is seeking to engage Legal Consultant to provide individual counselling or to hold group sessions on specific topics such as children's identity documents or to clarify questions about women's rights with regard to custody and caregiver ship and other issues related.

Responsibilities:

The Consultant is going to provide legal advice individual or group appointments to the beneficiary families during the project period. The appointments have the character of an initial consultation, and will be implemented in Khan Younis center according to the following:

  • Provide individual legal counselling sessions for the beneficiary families, based on the need of the family, the appointment lasts for 45 minutes.
  • Provide group sessions for 2 hours on specific topicssuch as children's identity documents or to clarify questions about women's rights with regard to custody and caregiver ship and other issues related.
  • Provide work plan for individual legal counselling and group sessions.
  • Submits reports to the social worker for individual counselling appointments and group sessions – to enable social worker follow up the cases.

Conditions and criteria that must be met by the applicant:

  • Master degree in law.
  • Minimum 5 years practical experience in providing legal advice and legal workshops. (Experience with NGOs and INGOs is a preferential advantage for selection).
  • At least 5 years of experience working in the legal profession, especially on women's issues and good understanding of domestic violence and gender issues.
  • Solid knowledge of Palestinian Law.
  • Strong organizational communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian principles.
  • Ensure confidentially of the beneficiaries.
  • Reporting skills.
  • Legal Consultant located in Gaza Strip.

  • Rate should be offered per individual and group sessions.

The offer will be evaluated by using the best value for money approach (combined scoring method). Technical proposal will be evaluated on %75 whereas the financial one will be evaluated on %25.
