RAM/2023/ED/TK/243 the implementation of awareness-raising c...
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sits at the intersection of education and the world of work, thus plays a crucial role in economic and social development. TVET as a key component of education is highlighted under the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on quality education and lifelong learning in the Target 4.4 “substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship” while it is also featured in the SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth in the Target 8.6 “substantially reduce the proportion of youth not in employment, education or training.”
It is widely recognized that technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and apprenticeships do not always have the same positive public image as university education. This perception needs to be changed, particularly amongst parents and students, to sensitize for the value of TVET as an effective route into empowerment and resilience.
UNESCO Ramallah, as a lead agency for the SDG 4 in Palestine, supports the country in advancing the TVET agenda. Currently, implements the TVET4Future project that aims at Increasing TVET Competencies for Youth in the Palestinian Labour Market, funded by the Government of Belgium through Enabel - the Belgian Development Agency, focussing on the following aspects.
Fostering youth employment and entrepreneurship.
Promoting equity and gender equality in the TVET sector.
Facilitating the transition to green jobs\economies.
Increasing the community awareness on TVET as a future pathway for youth in Palestine.
Under this project, UNESCO will implement three awareness-raising campaigns to promote TVET as a key strategy to increase opportunities for youth in Palestine. Promoting TVET through targeted campaigns, shall change societal perceptions, reduce stigma, and encourage more young Palestinians to consider vocational pathways as viable options for personal and professional development. Additionally, showcasing success stories of individuals who have thrived through TVET to inspire others and change societal perceptions about TEVT as an empowerment strategy for youth in Palestine.
