RFP: PalSAhafa Needs Assessment

Tender Description

Amideast is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation between Americans and the peoples of the Middle East and North Africa through education, training, and institutional development programs. Currently operating in various locations, including the West Bank and Gaza, Amideast aims to enhance the skills and resilience of independent Palestinian media and journalists through its PalSahafa program.

The PalSahafa program seeks to support independent Palestinian media and journalists, fostering a resilient, self-regulating community. This initiative aims to build the foundations of an independent media ecosystem by identifying and addressing the complex challenges faced by journalists, enhancing their skills, and creating sustainable networks and working groups.

Target groups and final beneficiaries

Target groups are:

Seasoned and junior journalists, as well as university students and fresh graduates
Palestinian media organizations and unions
Universities (Journalism colleges and departments)

Final beneficiaries:

University Media/Journalism students
Fresh graduates, junior journalists, and seasoned journalists

Contract Purpose and Expected Results

Our project objectives are to 1) develop a locally led understanding and definition of innovation and sustainability with regards to Palestinian independent media and journalistic practices; 2) strengthen the skills of university journalism students and junior and seasoned journalists in areas they themselves identify as needing improvement, and establish the structures necessary for collaborative, sustainable networks and working groups among them

Purpose:

The Contractor is expected to clarify the training program methods and topics and identify beneficiary needs, including:

Identify the training needs of university students and fresh graduates, with a specific focus on enhancing their employability prospects.
Identify and clarify the training needs of seasoned and junior journalists and inform the development of training curriculum and materials.
Capture student feedback regarding what we anticipate is their need for experiential learning and help define the scope and goals of the internships.
Identify practical experience internship needs, and preferred internship fields for young journalists.
Clarify and identify mental health training needs and topics to be incorporated into the training curriculum.
Identify challenges expected during the process and suggest solutions to improve the training experience.
