INTRODUCTION

It is widely acknowledged that innovation and entrepreneurship are driving forces of economic growth and social development in today's modern society. Therefore, The Palestine Information & Communication Technology Incubator (PICTI) is running a tech-led female startups’ competition that aims to support innovative ideas, development and business creation through the selection of top 5 winning females’ entrepreneurs whom will enter 4 months incubation programme to turn their business ideas into actual business startups.

COMPETITION OBJECTIVES

• Enable startups to get the best one-to-one mentoring, coaching and advise during a period of 4 months.
• The top 5 winning startups will be offered seed funding.
• Build startup capacity to turn ideas into a tangible product, solution or service that satisfies a real need or a problem.
• Allow startups to identify their industry and competitors.
• Provide feedback, advise and new ideas to startups by an assigned business development expert.
• Enable startups to grow their businesses.

WHOM CAN APPLY?

Since we focus on Women’s Economic Empowerment, females (from the West Bank and Gaza Strip) who have an information, communications, or technological (ICT) focused business ideas/startups or use technology as a main tool for conducting their businesses are mostly welcomed.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

The startup incubation is the best showcase for your business where your projects will get the recognition that will help you get new clients, funds, and strategic partnerships. Moreover, your project will be visible to your local audience, who will be able to get to know your project through PICTI’s Online Startups Directory.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

This is an open invitation to all Palestinian women entrepreneurs & innovators from the West Bank, who have a business startup with an ICT-business focused solution or use technology as a main tool for promoting their business ideas and existing business. This challenge will culminate with the selection of top 5 business startups in the ICT sector.

 WHAT WILL WE PROVIDE?

• 4 months incubation programme.
• Training in: Pitching and Presentation skills, Project Management, Sales & Digital Marketing, Business Planning, Budgeting and Financial Planning.
• One-to-one mentoring and coaching.
• Technical and Legal Assistance.
• Seed Funding.

JUDGEMENT CRITERIA

• Clear explanation of the ICT business idea.
• Problem that the ICT business idea is trying to address.
• Solution for the ICT business idea.
• ICT utilization in the business idea.
• Financial sustainability of the ICT business idea.
• Impact of the solution on beneficiaries.
• Potential employment generator especially for young females.

BRIEF ABOUT THE PROJECT

This design-led competition comes under the project “Reducing Gender Inequalities in Palestine”, funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and implemented by the Palestine Information and Communication Technology incubator (PICTI) in partnership with Women’s Technical Affairs Committee (WATC), Alizana Por La Solidaridad (APS), Palestine Family Planning and Protection Association (PFPPA) and Culture & Free Thought Association (CFTA).

Under this project, PICTT strives to economically empower Palestinian women through capacity-building programme tailored towards supporting 5 women entrepreneurs in developing income-generating businesses.
