Accountant
AMIDEAST is an international, non-profit, educational organization based in USA with offices throughout the Middle East and North Africa. AMIDEAST is seeking qualified applicants for Accountant for a fulltime position based in its Ramallah office for the USAID funded Leadership and Teacher Development (LTD) Program. LTD is a comprehensive education reform initiative focused on improving the quality of school education through an evidence-based approach to leadership and teacher development. It is a four years program started May 2012 and is planned to be concluded in May 2016
Position Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of Operations and Compliance Manager, the Accountant will work for USAID funded and AMIDEAST administered Leadership & Teacher Development Program (LTD Program). The Accountant will be responsible for the general accounting functions and assist LTD Program Management in day-to-day accounting tasks and financial reporting.
Specifically, the Accountant will have the following duties:
-Maintain financial records in compliance with AMIDEAST's financial manual, applicable policies and control procedures
-Process day-to-day financial transactions and prepare accounting vouchers
-Ensure accurate and appropriate classification of financial transactions into the automated accounting system (Deltek)
-Ensure sufficient and appropriate supporting documents, and secure required approvals for all program charges
-Liaise with suppliers, consultants, stakeholders and hosting bank in all related financial matters
-Prepare cash advances and bank reconciliations on timely manner
-Perform monthly and yearly close processes of the program accounts
-Count, reconcile and replenish petty cash
-Identify shared-costs and allocate these costs at benefited programs based on approved allocation-base
-Assist with fixed assets physical counts and reconciliations
-Request VAT exemptions, prepare VAT refund sheets and keep track for the invoices submitted for VAT refund
-Assist with preparation of periodic financial reports and budget activities
-Maintain sound filling system for financial records
-Any other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Required Skills:
-Bachelor’s degree in accounting
-Two to three years relative work experience, preferably in local/international NGO
-Familiarity with USAID project is preferred
-Fluency in English and Arabic.
-Excellent knowledge of software applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, and e-mail.
