Canaan Center for Organic Research & Extension (CORE)
The Canaan Center for Organic Research and Extension (CORE), is a not-for-profit Center located in the rich agricultural region of Jenin in Northern Palestine. CORE will serve as a national center for research and extension activities to promote organic production and marketing of fruits, vegetables and grains in Palestine and abroad. The establishment of this Center represents a unique opportunity for Palestine and Palestinians to engage in and benefit from research and education that will provide new agronomic and marketing opportunities for small producers and their families by conducting essential training and extension activities in ecological farming systems, building community organizations, and revitalizing many of the rich agricultural and social traditions of Palestine. CORE will become an active participant within the existing global network of organic farming research and education centers throughout the United States, Europe, Africa, and South and Central America. The Center will provide opportunities for the international exchange of university faculty, students and farmers to share research agendas and participate in educational programs that enhance organic farming practices and product development. Within this global context, the Center will utilize a multi-disciplinary, holistic approach to its research and education agenda.
Background
This position is located in CORE's office in Jenin (Palestine). The employee will work under the direct supervision of CORE director and will assist in the general operations and execution of the office activities.
Main duties and responsibilities:
-Documents financial transactions by entering account information.
-Summarizes current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports.
-Prepares payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements.
-Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends
-Provides administrative and clerical support to the process of preparation and drafting of projects ideas, work plans, budgets, revisions, progress reports and summaries;
-Assists in the development of contacts with Government institutions and authorities, local and international NGOs, civil society organizations, resource persons and media;
-Assists in the organizations of training activities, seminars, workshops, conventions, other events;
-Assists in the preparations of terms of reference, programs and logistics for visiting experts, missions, delegations;
-Makes travel and hotel reservations, arrangements for shipments and receipts, preparing tenders and assisting in procurement process and proper assets management, monitoring, recording and disposal;
-Performs other duties (such as general, correspondence, attendance of meetings, minutes of meetings, reports, follow up etc.) as required.

-Sound knowledge and understanding of concepts and approaches relevant to budgetary and financial management, demonstrable knowledge of database administration, as well as sound ability in project management approach.
-Knowledge of the national financial rules and regulations as well as of the EU funded programs.

-Ability to perform a range of administrative functions, including event planning and organizing a human resources administration.

-Ability to establish priorities and to plan; to foresee risks and allows for contingences when planning, to work on tight deadline; and to monitor and adjust plans and projects as necessary, uses time efficiently.
Required Skills and Experience
-BSc. Degree in Accounting, rural development, sustainable agriculture. a M. Sc. Degree in accounting, MBA, international cooperation, rural development, Masters degree is a plus.
-A minimum of 3 years of progressive responsible professional experience in Accounting and administrative assistance of project implementation and management, preferably in civil service, NGO or international organization environment;
-Computer literacy, specially advanced skills in MS office Suit, familiarity with any software related to projects management and/or statistical analyses is plus.
Languages
Beside the Arabic language as mother tongue language, a very strong command in English language is required and crucial for this position (fluency in English, both oral and written), knowledge of other languages (French, Italian, Spanish, German) is plus.
Work conditions
-Work hours from 8:00 to 16:30 (with 1 h as launch interval, and possibility to leave 30 min before the end of the day)
-It is necessary to have a valid driving license and to be available to drive and travel inside the country and abroad
