Advocacy and Media Expert
Organization Background:
Established in 1981, Palestinian Working Women for Development is a civil feminist human rights organization that seeks to achieve gender equality and combat all forms of discrimination and gender-based violence, facilitate women's access to justice, and contribute to the development process, through providing psychological, social and legal support to women, empowering them and encouraging their participation in the political, economic and social field.
PWWSD aims for a free and democratic Palestinian society based on gender equality, respect for human rights, and social justice. PWWSD promotes women's self-empowerment, women’s contribution to the development processes, the entitlement of women to political, economic, and civic rights, women’s access to justice, and their right to a life free of violence.
PWWSD is currently seeking to improve the political situation of Palestinian women and youth, by integrating women in the negotiation to end the Palestinian political division, increase women’s participation in peace, address women’s security agenda, strengthen human rights, and assess needs and priorities of women and men in areas affected by internal conflicts.
To this end, PWWSD is recruiting a full-time “Advocacy and Media Expert” under the “Enhanced Role of Women in the Public Life and Minimizing Conflicts- Grassroots Approach-Muwatinat” project that aims to INCREASE A MEANINGFUL PARTICIPATION AND DECISION-MAKING OF WOMEN IN CONFLICT PREVENTION PROCESSES AND RESPONSE. The Advocacy and Media Expert will directly report to the Muwatinat project coordinator.
Purpose and objectives:
The expert will assist PWWSD and project partners in:
- Coordinate, supervise and design advocacy campaigns in close cooperation with the PWWSD team and all engaged stakeholders, to advance women’s rights in Palestine.
- Development, production, and follow-up of multimedia content and PWWSDs’ social media platforms and website to increase media reach and visibility effectiveness.
Major Duties:
The Advocacy and Media Expert will have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Plan all advocacy and media-related activities in close consultation with the project stakeholders;
- Liaise with local and international media outlets to ensure coverage of the action's activities & results;
- Develop, produce, and follow up on PWWSDs’ social media platforms and website to increase media reach and visibility effectiveness.
- Contribute to the production of Press Releases & content for social media (posts & ads, photos, stories, success stories, and best practices, others);
- Lead the implementation of related advocacy and media activities (assisting in preparing scripts, prepping speakers, etc);
- Report on media and advocacy activities (including visibility);
- Provide needed advocacy/media advice to participants/trainees/activists of the project’s activities when needed;
- Work closely with PWWSD communication and advocacy officer and other staff to conceptualize and implement related communications strategies and campaigns;
- Participate and follow up the monthly awareness sessions, and capacity-building sessions for CSOs, national campaigns, and local initiatives, to help them endorse WPSA within their interventions,
- Review and add inputs on the planned policy papers that will be produced and disseminated during the project period.
- Research, edit, and produce professional media and communications materials for various audiences and ensuring their timely dissemination and amplification;
- Follow up on all related social media communications;
- Maintains a calendar of assigned activities and deadlines and shares with PWWSD and project partners;
- Maximizes opportunities for PWWSD and partners to be featured in various types of media messages;
- Maintain records of media coverage;
- Any tasks requested by the General Director.

Background and Required Experience
- At least a graduate degree in journalism and communication, or a related field is required.
- At least five years of relevant professional experience working in journalism and communication, including writing features for media and web;
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining social media accounts, especially Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, as well as experience with new media executions;
- Knowledge and understanding of local and global digital landscape and trends;
- Experience with graphic design, ability to create designs for digital media purposes in open-source graphic design programs;
- Ability to integrate PR/communication initiatives with social media;
- Experience developing compelling content to generate responses from audiences online;
- Experience in reporting on qualitative and quantitative analytics;
- Ability to take quality photographs and basic photo editing skills;
- Experience in and familiarity with the Palestinian context and the NGO sector;
Language Proficiency:
- Very good in both written and spoken English and Arabic is essential.
Functional Competencies:
- Ability to plan, prioritize and be precise and quality-oriented.
- Excellent teamwork skills.
- Strong ability to work under pressure.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills particularly with software applications like Word and PowerPoint.

- Able to establish firm and reliable contacts in various media outlets.
