PURPOSE & OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
Reporting to the Director General, the post holder will lead and develop effective media and Advocacy strategies in support of QADER’s mission, strategic goals and the agreed priorities of its annual plan. The Media and Advocacy Officer will ensure delivery of consistent messages that will enhance QADER’s profile, reputation and brand visibility.
The post holder will work with QADER key staff members, to coordinate the formulation, management, delivery, and follow-up of reactive and proactive media and Advocacy work, devise and implement QADER-wide media and Advocacy strategies.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
ADVOCACY
- Contribute to the development / review of QADER’s overarching advocacy strategy
- Lead the preparation of annual operational advocacy plan
- Lead the planning and implementation of advocacy campaign / activities to advance policy change in support the rights of PwD.
- Advise on the engagement of advocacy by various QADER’s projects & programs
- Contribute to QADER’s efforts and strategy towards building coalitions / joining networks on the national, regional and international level
MEDIA / COMMUNICATION & PR
- Contribute to planning of and arrangements for QADER events, in particular regarding the design and production of visibility & media materials including press releases, media briefings, …etc
- Develop and maintain QADER’s media contacts database along with updated communication list for all current/potential contacts.
- Lead the planning and implementation of the longer-term development of the QADER website, to ensure it continues to achieve its objectives.
- Prepare and post material for the relevant areas of QADER website and other online and web-based communications as required, and ensure that information remains topical and up to date.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of an information/communication management strategy for QADER.
- Lead the organization of communication/PR activities and social events and assist in fundraising activities and other relevant activities requested by QADER’s management
- Promote a proactive communication system to support QADER to relate closely to its constituency, community, partners and donors.
- Strengthen QADER links with local NGOs, government institutions, and local authorities, international organizations, and funding agencies
ONLINE RESOURCE CENTER
-Contribute to the development and implementation of an action plan for the online resource center along with a marketing strategy.
-Contribute to the development of marketing and communication materials and tools for the online resource center
-Lead and coordinate the search efforts, collection, and uploading of relevant resources on the online resource center
-Build and maintain relations with Universities and research institute, locally, and regionally and internationally
OTHER DUTIES
-Provide editorial support to colleagues, specifically for selected articles, reports, case studies, presentations, etc.
-Prepare, in coordination with other staff members, media materials and communications of QADER, including, brochures, newsletters, articles, Project/program fact sheets, topography reports, and annual reports.
-Prepare program/project related documents/updates, including projects’ profiles, fact sheets, speeches, success stories.
-Lead and coordinate efforts for preparing any ad hoc report requested by QADER or any of its stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
-At least Bachelor degree in journalism, communications, public relations or a related field, Masters degree is preferred;
-At least 3 years of experience in media, advocacy, public relations or communications, preferably with civil society organization;
-Experience in and demonstrated understanding of the field of social development and disability.
-Fluent written and spoken English and Arabic, Italian language is a plus.
-Proven ability to produce corporate communications materials;
-Additional technical skills are desirable, including knowledge of emerging media technologies and social media, proficiency in design and photo/video editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Final Cut Pro, etc.
