Agronomist
The Gaza Culture and Development Group (GCDG) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization established in 1990 by a group of Palestinian intellectuals aiming at promoting cultural awareness for all categories of the society. The association works on achieving sustainable development to achieve a better and sustainable future for all. It is officially registered with the Palestinian Ministry of Interior under No. 7288 since 2003.
Position overview
GCDG is implementing a project titled with Multisectoral Emergency Response – Enhancing Food security, Livelihood, protection and Gender Interventions, Funded by Oxfam. Under the responsibility of the project Coordinator; the agronomist shall be responsible for all Livelihood related Activities including supporting small business, providing agricultural inputs, and implementing light rehabilitation for some targeted croplands. He/She ensures close supervision of micro-businesses and emphasizes positive cooperation attitudes among all parties so that the project actions are coherent with the organization strategy and in line with developmental best practices.
Main responsibilities and tasks:
- Conduct need assessment about farmers and croplands in the areas of intervention.
- Supervise and implement support to small business owners through well-organized and transparent process of BNFs selection.
- Closely monitor the unskilled workers’ attendance “CFW” who are entitled to support farmers in their croplands.
- Produce case studies and success stories of families benefited from the livelihood component.
- In collaboration with the GCDG staff, provide regular internal and external communication products focusing on the impact of food security activities in reducing the food insecurity for websites, Twitter and Facebook webpages, etc.
- Collaborate with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning team to ensure that activities are effectively monitored and evaluated for their impact and outcome.
- Support and follow up of grantees to implement activities according to the approved action plan.
- Submit regular progress reports to the Project Coordinator regarding the implementation of interventions.
- Responsible for the planning, implementation, supervision and follow up of rehabilitation of agriculture infrastructure and provide technical support to farmers in coordination with team and in collaboration with the head of project.
- Responsible to draft budget activities forecast reporting to head of project.
- Provide technical inputs and review of BoQs for inputs and materials for rehabilitation.
- Lead infrastructure and farmers selection process
- Assist heads of project maintaining rights holder’s database with up-to-date information and tracking of rights holders’ progress and challenges.
- Conduct regular field visits to the project sites to follow up the implementation and provide the needed technical support.
- Propose solutions and improvements related to project progress

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree preferably in Agriculture studies, agronomy, or related field.
- Essential working experience in humanitarian response and at minimum 4 years in a relevant position.
- Fluent English & Arabic
- Excellent knowledge of Livelihood best practices.
- Experience in working with local authorities and partners
- Good communication and interpersonal skills capable of maintaining strong relationships.
Conditions
- Job Title: Agronomist
- Contract Duration: 12 months
- Working Hours: Standard office working hours from Sunday to Thursday.
