AQB MAT Director

 

Al-Quds Bard (AQB) is seeking a Director for its Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Program in
Abu Dis. AQB is a partnership of Al-Quds University and Bard College, which offers graduate and
undergraduate dual-degree programs based on the liberal arts model of education. The MAT Program leads to a MAT degree from Bard College and a M.Ed. degree from Al-Quds University. The MAT Program is committed to rigorous graduate training in biology, English, general science, history, and mathematics; intense involvement in high school/middle school classrooms; partnerships for educational change with participant schools; and a re-conceptualized education curriculum. Courses in education and the student’s discipline are closely integrated with the practical challenges of classroom instruction. The Al-Quds/Bard MAT program currently enrolls in-service Palestinian teachers in a two–year version of the program and receives significant support from USAID and the Open Society Foundation. The program is poised to expand it efforts as a graduate teacher education program to include increased engagement with Palestinian Schools to support teachers as leaders of educational innovation and with the Ministry of Education and other Palestinian universities to address the global question of how best to prepare teachers to address the kinds of learning that matter most.

JOB DESCRIBTION
The position of Director is an exceptional leadership opportunity for an individual with demonstrated
commitment to the preparation of teachers and the improvement of public schools. The Director has
the full range of responsibilities for administering the graduate program in close consultation with directors at the New York and California campuses, including hiring and evaluating faculty, overseeing partnerships with public schools, and providing administrative leadership and guidance in curriculum development, student recruitment and advising, and student services.

QUALIFICATION
The Director will also work closely with the Dean of Teacher Education on program development
and fundraising. A Ph.D. or Ed.D. is required. Primary scholarship and achievement in areas other
than education is welcome and appropriate; familiarity with educational issues and the life of public
schools is essential. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Candidates must be fluent in Arabic and English. The position is available immediately.
