RTI International is implementing USAID-funded West Bank Early Grade Reading Activity. This activity will work closely with and support the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) to enhance learning outcomes for Palestinian children at the primary level by improving Arabic reading instruction, and policies and practices at the government, community and school levels,
RTI International is requesting applications for a short-term Arabic Reading / Curriculum Development Consultant for USAID-funded West Bank Early Grade Reading Project. This project will work closely with the Community Engagement Department to develop material in the Arabic language for an after-school remediation program for early grades to complement the MOEHE’s Arabic curriculum “My Beautiful Language”. This position is a short-term consultancy. Successful candidates must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in Arabic.
Arabic Reading / Curriculum Development Consultant
The Curriculum Development Specialist Consultant will be primarily responsible for developing the enrichment remediation curriculum for second grade Arabic language for a remediation program. The consultant will develop and finalize the material to be delivered in the 100 MOEHE target schools by the EGR program. Advising and supporting the EGR Community Engagement team to strengthen early grade reading remedial program. S/he will build necessary materials in high-quality and appropriately sequenced reading and writing skills and provide support for the design of effective curriculum, lesson planning, instructional approaches and materials.
Period of Performance: 6 weeks (Feb 1, 2018 – March 15, 2018)
Essential Duties
-Develop remediation reading and writing materials for Arabic language for students entering 2nd grade
-Develop an assessment tool for pre-and post-tests of students in remediation program
-Work with EGR and MOEHE teams to guarantee quality adaptation of appropriate teaching and learning materials, including lesson plans in the target grade level in Arabic language with guide for volunteers to use to implement program
-Coordinate input from other Arabic reading experts in Palestinian organizations and retired teachers
-Support in creating video to use as a tool to support volunteers in implementing remedial program

-PHD degree in Early Grade Reading or equivalent, with a minimum of six years of demonstrated relevant experience; OR at a minimum a Master’s Degree with at least ten years demonstrated relevant experience
-In depth knowledge in the teaching of reading and writing in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA)
-Must be able to use the language fluently and accurately and be able to read all styles and forms on all levels pertinent to professional needs
-Modern Standard Arabic ability is desirable -Fluency in English desirable
-Excellent Arabic typing skills and ability to use Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
-Attention to detail and accuracy -Ability to work independently
