Background
Turquoise Mountain is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 2006 to revive traditional crafts, and historic areas and to provide jobs, skills, and opportunities through cultural heritage projects. By blending heritage buildings, education, and enterprise, Turquoise Mountain has created sustainable heritage places and livelihoods that support the revival of artisan industries. Turquoise Mountain now works in Afghanistan, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, and the Levant. Since 2006, Turquoise Mountain has restored over 150 historic buildings, created employment for thousands of artisans and builders, built over 50 small businesses, and supported and generated over $17 million in sales of traditional crafts to domestic and international markets.
Turquoise Mountain Levant works in Jordan, Palestine, and the wider region to support cultural heritage. We connect hundreds of artisans to new and sustainable markets, provide training and education in traditional crafts, and lead sustainable regeneration projects of historic buildings.
This Role:
Turquoise Mountain is seeking a skilled and experienced Business Skills Trainer and Mentor Consultant to lead the Core Business Skills Training program, which aims to support artisans with less advanced business skills, including home-based businesses, artisans in small workshops, and new entrepreneurs.
The consultant will be responsible for training 30 Palestinian artisans divided into 2 groups; 15 per group over 4 training days per group. The focus will be on equipping the targeted artisans with essential knowledge, skills, and tools on business skill relevant topics including but not limited financial management, registration, taxation, branding, marketing, and shipping for the sake of better efficient and effective operation and management of their small businesses and workshops.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Turquoise Mountain team in identifying and selecting 30 artisans working on the different traditional craft themes for the training purposes.
- Conduct an online/on-site rapid training needs assessment session with selected artisans to identify their actual Core business skills needs and competency level.
- Prepare the Onsite Intensive, Innovative, and Interactive Business Skills Training Program for the selected artisans based on the findings of the rapid training needs assessment including training outline, agenda, techniques, exercises, materials, etc. to be all discussed and approved by the Turquoise Mountain team.
- Conduct The Business Skills Training Program for the selected 30 artisans in Bethlehem Hub for 4 days; 5 hours per day for each of the 2 groups.
- Develop pre-and post-evaluations/tests for each of the training modules in collaboration with the Turquoise Mountain team.
- Collaborate with the Turquoise Mountain team in identifying and selecting the best 15 promising trained artisans to receive group and one-to-one mentoring support.
- Collaborate with the Turquoise Mountain team in assessing the mentoring needs of each selected artisan and accordingly develop a tailored and detailed group and one-to-one mentorship program for each one.
- Prepare final report in English on the implemented Core Business Skills Program including the results of the pre/post evaluations; activities conducted; outcomes achieved i.e., increased orders, sales, and income of artisans; challenges faced; and recommendations for future development.

Qualifications
- At least three years of professional experience in business skills training and mentorship, particularly with artisans or small businesses.
- Strong knowledge of small business planning and management, including financial, marketing, and operations planning.
- Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic languages.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with artisans and Turquoise Mountain team members.
- Ability to adapt training and mentorship methods to meet individual artisan needs and capacities.
- Solid experience in various training and mentorship methods and approaches.
- Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and to travel to Hebron and Bethlehem to visit the artisans’ workshops as needed, especially during the mentoring support.
- Familiarity with the Palestinian craft ecosystem is advantageous.
Contract Duration
- This consultancy assignment will be implemented in 10 working days in February/March 2025.
Location
- The Consultancy will be implemented in Bethlehem Hub –Bethlehem City.
