Career Advisory Vacancy - Part-time


Background:
Save Youth Future Society in partnership with UNDP/PAPP is implementing “Al Fakhoora Internship Project ” which is designed to contribute directly to Al-Fakhoora Dynamic Futures programme’s objective to facilitate individuals in finding career positions that will be right for them and beneficial to the wider society around them.
Dynamic Future Programme (DFP) aims at effectively building a cadre of educated and trained leaders who are civic-minded, intellectually able, and professional to become community, Business, and national/global leaders of the future. The programme avails opportunities for Palestinian university-level students to actualize their professional and leadership potential by overcoming socioeconomic, political and cultural limitations and becoming enabled to productively engage in society.
As part of the DFP economic empowerment component, the programme provides subsidized internship for the graduates. Al Fakhoora Internship Project aims at increasing economic opportunities for youth by improving their market relevant job skills and knowledge. Graduates will be engaged in an intensive training program on employability and life skills. The project will achieve this result through an approach that simultaneously addresses urgent humanitarian needs through short-term opportunities to earn income and promotes early recovery efforts. Graduates will be placed to a 3-months subsidized internship.
SYFS is seeking Career Advisor to implement bi-weekly field visits, coaching sessions, meetings and consultation with 10 alumni with Education Background mainly. This would provide them with important tips to succeed and enhance the needed skills to have a more powerful and successful internship experience.

Responsibilities
The variety of work that can be carried out includes:
-Interviewing interns one-to-one or in small groups to discuss career tasks;
-Identifying skills gaps and how to deal with them;
-Helping interns to draw up action plans for employment, and training and supporting them to achieve these goals;
-Researching careers, and options for the interns;
-Providing advice on CV, applications, job hunting and interview techniques;
-Running small group sessions or larger presentations on all aspects of careers work and topics related to personal development;
-Helping interns to understand the current job market;
-Using IT for administrative tasks, such as tracking interns’ progress;
-Planning and organizing career fairs and conventions;
-Keeping up to date with labor market information, and professional and academic developments by visiting employers, training providers and training events run by educational and professional bodies;
-Providing feedback and recommendations on how to improve the internship model;
-Managing a caseload of 10 interns;
-Conducting bi-weekly visits to 10 interns.

Working hours
-Careers advisers usually work 20 hours a week, Sunday to Thursday, but they may be required to be flexible with the hours and some may need to do evening or weekend work depending on the need.

Qualifications
-Although this area of work is open to all graduates, a degree in a sociological or educational related topic would be useful. In particular the following subjects may help:
-Counselling;
-Psychology;
-Social work;
-Teaching;
-Youth work.

Skills
You will need to show:
-A high level of communication and listening skills;
-The ability to motivate and build a rapport with people;
-Flexibility and adaptability;
-An empathetic, non-judgmental and ethical approach;
-The ability to work individually or as part of a team;
-The ability to manage your own caseload;
-The capability to work under pressure;
-Organizational skills;
-Problem-solving skills;
-Familiarity with information technology.

Work experience
Experience of working with interns or in advisory positions will be helpful. Four years of professional experience in career advisory, preferably with experience in working within NGO context and developmental projects.

It is also possible to work within consultancies or within large businesses, advising the employees on career management.
