Civil or WATER Engineer (Site engineer) / fixed term contract (till March of 2015)
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an independent, neutral organization ensuring humanitarian protection and assistance for victims of war and armed violence. It takes action in response to emergencies and at the same time promotes respect for international humanitarian law and its implementation in national law.
Your Job (main tasks)
-Contributes to the implementation of Water and Habitat department projects mainly independently
-Participates in project design based on the understanding and analysis of the context through accurate assessments.
-Defines solutions to problems related to Water supply and environmental sanitation.
-Reviews and designs project proposal including concept papers, budget, time plan, technical drawings and bill of quantities and technical specifications.
-Participates in site supervision and in the analysis and close monitoring of project to ensure planned schedule of works is on track and terms of contract are respected
-Closely works with partners to provide feedback and guidance as well as to other engineering colleagues.
-Maintains contacts with interlocutors / authorities at local level mainly independently.
-Coordinates well with other ICRC departments to ensure follow up of standard procurement procedures, tracking of relevant expenses and maintains constant overview of payments.
-Maintains clear and solid understanding of ICRC mandate to participate and interact with the ICRC partners.
-Interprets accurately from English to Arabic and vice versa.
-Contributes to written reporting
-Supervises technical staff contractors and/or partners
-Contributes to the preparation and following the budget.
Your Profile (skills & experience required)
-University degree Civil Engineer with solid WASH experience or Electrical engineer
-3 - 5 years work experience in a similar field
-Very good knowledge of written and spoken English
-Very good computer skills
-Capacity to work independently
-Good analytical skills
-Good knowledge of geographically assigned area
