About Gaza Sky Geeks

Gaza Sky Geeks (GSG): established in 2011 by Mercy Corps with support from Google, with a mission to foster sustainable and inclusive tech-enabled economic development in Palestine. By delivering an integrated approach to developing the capacity of tech-services companies increasing access to markets and providing large-scale training in specialized tech skills, GSG aims to grow the competitiveness of the Palestinian tech sector in the global market.

The core objective of GSG in the West Bank (WB) for 2024, and 2025 is to revive the economy by assisting existing talent (individuals and companies) to improve their ability to regain income, whilst also continuing to train more young people to enter the sector. Activities will fall into 3 categories.

  1. Outcome 1: Capacity Building of Palestinian Individuals

- Specialist tech training for individuals to learn skills to earn income by working for local Palestinian tech companies, or by working remotely for overseas employers.

  1. Outcome 2: Capacity Building of Palestinian Tech Companies

- Training to employees in local Palestinian tech companies to help increase their specialist skills and become more senior.

- Capacity building of executives in Palestinian tech companies (e.g. company specialization strategy, sales & business development training, mentoring by overseas business experts).

iii. Outcome 3: Market Access and Income Generation (for individuals & companies)

- Talent Matching: connect participants with local and overseas companies for mentors, internships, and employment.

- Market Access: help Palestinian individuals and companies secure mentors, internships employment, and revenue-generating contracts

The Position (The Communications and Marketing Coordinator at Gaza Sky Geeks program activities is responsible for developing and delivering a cohesive social media presence and brand marketing presence in the local and international markets.  This highly collaborative position requires excellent communication skills and expertise to assess the needs of the program teams. The marketing coordinator will lead organic and paid social campaign content and delivery.  This coordinator position will help in executing the campaigns, focusing on measuring and optimizing engagement and paid advertising spend. This position will be under the marketing and communications team. The main goal of the marketing team is to promote the values of Gaza Sky Geeks and through this shape the public perception of the organization by targeting a wide range of audiences: from first-time program participants to hiring partners to donors.

The Marketing and Communications coordinator’s responsibilities under this position will be handling all branding and designs under GSG-Mercy Corps activities and responsible for promoting all program activities while understanding the unique value propositions and audiences of Gaza Sky Geeks is key to succeeding in this role. Our target audiences are local and international and include individuals and companies

Essential Responsibilities:

SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively learns safeguarding and integrates it into their work, including safeguarding risks and mitigations related to their area of work.
  • Practices the values of Mercy Corps including respecting the dignity and well-being of participants and fellow team members.
  • Encourages openness and communication in their team; encourages team members to submit reports if they have any concerns using reporting mechanisms e.g., Integrity Hotline and other options.

POSITION/ TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Marketing and Social Media Initiatives

  1. Develop Marketing Plans: Create social media marketing plans aligned with GSG programs and programs overall goals
  2. Content Creation: Ideate and implement messaging and campaigns that drive audience engagement and support brand objectives.
  3. Performance Optimization: Monitor KPIs to ensure measurable progress from digital engagement to programmatic outcomes. Adjust strategies based on lessons learned.
  4. Campaign Evaluation: Measure and report campaign performance, focusing on ROI and actionable insights.

Social Media Management

  1. Platform Oversight: Manage GSG’s social media presence on key platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter).
  2. Content Calendar: Build, distribute, and execute social media content calendars, ensuring cross-team alignment.
  3. Audience Engagement: Oversee engagement, including comments, messages, and community management.
  4. Ad Campaigns: Plan budgets, create customized ads, and align campaigns
  5. Data-Driven Insights: Continuously refine strategies using performance metrics, audience feedback, and best practices.

Events Coverage

  1. Event Marketing: Create promotional and print materials for events.
  2. Live Engagement: Provide live coverage, including photography, videography, and participant testimonials.
  3. Service Providers: Hire and coordinate with external providers for event support when needed.
  4. Regional Travel: Travel between cities for event coverage as necessary.

Graphic Design

  1. Campaign Design: Design materials aligned with campaign objectives, including digital and print formats.
  2. Rebranding Efforts: Update documents and presentations for external use while maintaining consistency
  3. Creative Input: Source visuals and refine designs in collaboration with program teams.

Brand Management and Content Creation:

  1. Brand Oversight: Manage digital, social, and print assets to maintain brand consistency.
  2. Guidelines: Ensure the team adheres to brand guidelines and enhances brand messaging through visual and verbal communication.
  3. Representation: Support branding efforts at conferences and presentations to strengthen GSG’s presence.
  4. Develop Arabic content for print, web, brochures, and social media.
  5. Write engaging, platform-optimized copy for social posts, adhering to the brand voice and best practices.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Manage Google AdWords spending and website-related SEO activities.
  • Contribute to technical marketing, content optimization, and branding projects as needed.
  • Support external program teams with content planning, design creation, and brainstorming sessions.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Accountability

Reports directly to: GSG Program and communications officer

Works directly with: GSG Team members Including Gaza Sky Geeks Director, Mercy Corps Administrative, Finance, and Procurement teams in Jerusalem and Ramallah, HQ, and regional communication department

Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, and other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Visual Communications, or a related field.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Knowledge of design tools for motion graphics and video editing (e.g., After Effects, Premiere Pro) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with digital and print production processes.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience in designing materials for digital and print campaigns, including social media graphics, brochures, and event collateral.
  • Experience in rebranding or updating corporate design materials is advantageous.

Creative and Strategic Thinking:

  • Ability to translate complex ideas into visually appealing and impactful designs.
  • Strong understanding of branding principles and visual storytelling.

Soft Skills:

  • Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Collaboration skills to work effectively with program teams and other stakeholders.

 Portfolio Requirement:

  • A strong portfolio showcasing a range of creative work in digital and print design.
