COMMUNICATION OFFICER
Première Urgence-Aide Médicale Internationale (PU-AMI) is an international apolitical and non-religious non for profit organization intervening in more than 20 countries around the world to help people to survive and rebuild their lives. Première Urgence and Aide Médicale Internationale merged in 2011 to offer a better range of lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to communities affected or forced to flee from war or disaster.
The PU-AMI mission opened in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) in 2002. PU-AMI is currently working in both the Northern of the West Bank (i.e. Nablus, Qalqilya, Salfit & Tulkarem districts) and the Gaza Strip (i.e. Rafah & Khan Younis districts in addition to Gaza city). The ongoing PU-AMI programs are focused on protection, agriculture, economic recovery (CFW) and women economic empowerment sectors.
SCOPE OF WORK
Under, the supervision of the Deputy Head of Mission, the Communication officer will be in charge to implement communication activities for the whole PU-AMI mission including the West Bank (WB) and the Gaza Strip (GS), by remote control.
This is a full time position: Sunday to Thursday based in Ramallah.
The Communication officer is part of the PU-AMI Quality / Communication & Advocacy departments composed of 7 members (including the position of Communication officer): 1 Selection & Assessment officer; 2 Monitoring & Evaluation officers (1 in WB & 1 in GS); 1 IT/GIS Manager and 1 Advocacy officer under the supervision of the Deputy Head of Mission (DHoM).
DETAILED TASKS
1-Design of communication plans & media campaign
-(S)he will be in charge to support the DHoM in the design and the implementation of Communication plans (internal and external). An internal communication plan for the whole mission (including WB & GS) has to be drafted. Based on this, 2 external communication plans have to be issued related to two programs (1 in WB only & 1 in GS & WB) to be submitted to the donors.
-(S)he will take part to the monitoring of a 22-months media campaign, in collaboration with the PU-AMI local partner, Women for Life, and the PU-AMI operational department, focused on Women socio-economic participation at regional and local levels, including different tools such as TV, radio spots and billboards in Salfit & Qalqilya districts.
2-Design & production of statements and reports in English/Arabic
-(S)he will be in charge to write statements and various reports to be sent to media / donors in order to inform them related to a specific event organized by PU-AMI (i.e. Summer camp; Closing ceremony; Conference etc.).
-(S)he will be in charge to write some success stories in close collaboration with the WB & GS Monitoring & Evaluation officers
-At the internal level, (s)he could support the Deputy Head of Mission for the production minutes of weekly, coordination meetings and Situation reports.
3-PU-AMI representative contact with local, national & international media
-(S)he will be in charge to constitute a database with contacts of local, national & international media (TV, Radio, Press)
-(S)he will be in charge to build sustainable relationships with media
-(S)he will be in charge to make sure that media will cover specific activities implemented by PU-AMI such as Summer camp; distribution of uniforms to children etc.
-(S)he will be involved in the preparation and the conduct of any media field visits (i.e. Planning; Presentation documents; Logistics etc.); including a to support to the Advocacy officer in the preparation & the organization of field visits related to the Advocacy strategy (i.e. Focus French journalists & diplomats)
4-Organization of Communication events
-(S)he will support the Operational & Quality departments in the preparation of conferences; Closing ceremony; and any other events
-(S)he will support the Advocacy officer in the preparation of specific events related to the PU-AMI Advocacy strategy
5-Supervising the production of visibility tools
-(S)he will be in charge to design and supervise the production of any visibility tools in WB & GS in close collaboration with the operational teams, the quality department and the logistics departments (i.e. posters; banner; brochures; calendars etc.). The Communication officer will be in contact with the selected supplier in order to monitor the quality and the design of the tools.
-(S)he will be in charge to follow the production of one photo book in Arabic, English and French in collaboration with PU-AMI local partner, Women for life. The purpose of this photos book will be to highlight the journey of some women who partook in the program and their personal achievements as a result of the action.
-On a occasionally basis, (S)he will could be also involved to support to the Advocacy officer in the design of specific brochures
-(S)he will be in charge to take pictures during the activities implementation (before / after) and to constitute a pictures database
6-Following the opening and the development of the PU-AMI Mission Facebook page
-(S)he will be in charge to update on a regular basis the Facebook page
-(S)he will be in to follow the posted comments
-(S)he will take part to the design of Facebook guidelines including the detailed of the process of validation of the content etc.
-(S)he will be in charge to write some blog notes for the PU-AMI website
REQUIREMENTS
Education: University degree in English and/or Public relations or any other related field
Professional background: At least 1 year previous experience in communication and/or reporting field
Knowledge and aptitudes:
-Excellent oral and written communication skills in Arabic and English
-Clean Driving license & ability to move around through all WB & Jerusalem
-Excellent capacity to speak in front of media (TV, radio)
-Strong and proven capacity in diplomatically working among an integrated multi-cultural project team
-Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

-Knowledge about NGO and humanitarian work
-Computer skills, including Graphic & Photo software
-Flexibility, adaptability, culturally sensitivity, sense of humor

PU-AMI is caring to offer a remuneration and benefits package commensurate to the Palestinian labor market. Salary range from 4500 NIS to 5300 NIS according to the experience; Six-month contract renewable
