Communication Officer
DanChurchAid (DCA) has supported activities carried out by civil society organisations in the occupied Palestinian territories since 1950. DCA has a regional office located in East Jerusalem covering the Middle East and North Africa, as well as a field office in Gaza. DCA Country Programme has five areas of focus: working with third states, active citizenship, right to food, humanitarian response and support to local civil society (DCA partners). The Country Programme is composed of projects implemented by currently 15 local partner organisations.
DCA is looking for a qualified candidate for a new position as Communication Officer. Under the supervision of the Regional Representative, the Communication Officer will be responsible for visibility, information and documentation for internal and external use of DCA as well as DCA partners’ work in Palestine and the region. The work of the Communications Officer will be guided by a MENA Regional Office Communication and Visiblity Strategy.
You will join a country team of 13 dedicated staff and work closely with our local implementing partners.
Main tasks:
-Assist the Regional Office in branding and communications efforts and in managing the content of media work in Palestine and internationally with particular focus on Denmark and international donors.
-Ensure that DCA and partners fulfill the contractual obligations on visibility for projects funded by international donors.
-Prepare project briefs, presentations, documentation in support of specific activities as well as for accountability purpose (e.g. publication of annual report, regular update of DCA web site).
-In close cooperation with media team in Denmark, to identify and prepare case stories from partners’ projects and ensure that text, photo/video material is available for publications and reports
-Provide support and capacity building on communication and media to DCA programme staff and partner organisations; in particular, support the development of partners’ visibility in relation to accountability.
-Plan, coordinate and support external visits (donors, delegations, VIPs, students, etc.).
-Support research, documentation and coordination efforts from both DCA and its partners in relation to national and international advocacy campaigns.
-‘Editor’ of MENA Regional Office inputs to DCA intranet, social media and websites.
Your key qualifications, and experience:
DCA is looking for a candidate who can fully embody DCA key management values of being Respectful, Participatory, Strategic and Vision driven, Efficient and Accountable.
-Master Degree in communications, journalism or other relevant educational background.
-Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in communication work from media, private sector or (I) NGOs
-Outstanding written and spoken English and Arabic.
-Ability to communicate, both in written and oral forms, complex and at times sensitive issues, in a manner accessible to large public and respectful of DCA’s mandate and policy.
-Strong organizational skills, with ability to meet deadlines.
-Technical skills in the use of social media and communication tools for effective communications.
-Documented research and writing skills for producing inputs - both text and photos - to various media including newspapers, websites and magazines, as well as visibility plans.
-Hands on experience with photographing and simple video productions.
-An excellent networker and team player, mature, flexible, patient and pro-active with excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to work with a partner based approach.
-Organised and able to handle practical logistical issues (e.g. to organise visits etc.).
-Knowledge and fine understanding of the local context.
DanChurchAid offers:
Contract duration: 1st October 2014 to 31st December 2016 with possibility for renewal.
DCA MENA office is based in East Jerusalem.
Terms in accordance with local staff manual.
