THE ORGANIZATION:
The Palestinian Youth Union (PYU) was established in 1992, formally registered after Palestinian Authority came as a non-governmental (NGO), non-profit, voluntary youth organization, that assemble all youth groups and children regardless of any divisions.
The PYU mission is the development of Palestinian youth abilities (males and females) so as to contribute to the building of the Palestinian society, through various constructive activities and programs.
The PYU, in partnership with the Palestinian Working Women Society for Development (PWWSD) and the WOMEN Network, will participate in the creation of a Gender Resources Center (GRC) located in the PWWSD offices in Gaza City, in the frame of a project funded by the Italian Cooperation.
For the Gender Resources Center in Gaza, PYU invites candidates with relevant qualifications to apply for the position of:
COMMUNICATION OFFICER of the Gender Resources Center.
THE PROJECT:
The Gender Resources Center (GRC) is a Center of services, meetings and initiatives for the promotion of gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The aim of the GRC is to create a Center for the collection of resources that can be mobilized in favour of women, to provide them the guidance for the access to services and to promote the empowerment of women as individuals and of the associations and institutions working for women and their rights in Gaza.
The main activities implemented in the GRC will be:
- Provide listening and guidance to women with the activation of a help desk in the GRC.
- Realization of needs assessment activities (focus groups and study circles).
- Organization of Seminars on gender analysis held by expert on gender, economics and politics and realization of the related publication of a Guide on Gender Analysis.
- Networking activity addressed to institutions, associations, local and international organizations working for women and addressed to the involvement of gender experts, academic and political women, women actives in women’s associations.
- Income generating activity with women in the outskirts of Gaza City.
- The Political Empowerment of young community leaders and realization of a Report on the Violation of Women’s Human Rights in the Gaza Strip.
- Activities in the field: workshops and lectures on human rights of women and equality between men and women in the Gaza Strip and Public Hearings on the violation of gender equality and human rights of women.
- Open days to present the GRC’s activities to the citizenship.
- Communication campaign for the promotion of the GRC.
- Information and awareness campaign in collaboration with Radio Shabab FM (Ramallah) and local radios which will broadcast radio programs on the condition of Palestinian woman.
- Creation of a discussion forum online.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Communication Officer of the GRC will work under the direct supervision and coordination of the Project Coordinator of the GRC and in close collaboration with the Local Operators of the GRC.
Their position will be also supervised by the expatriate Project Manager and the Executive Director of the PWWSD.
The selected person will be responsible for the planning and the realization of an effective promotional campaign of the Gender Resources Center from its birth and will develop it during the entire duration of the project to keep alive the public attention to the GRC and promote the networking activity, through different means.
We need a person able to carry out the following duties:
- Spread the information about the activities of the GRC carried out in the Center and in the Gaza Strip in order to reach women as individuals and women’s associations;
- Plan and implement an awareness campaign about women rights and gender equality in the Gaza Strip;
- Design and editing of the graphic of brochures, stickers, logos, posters and publications in which to elaborate the principles, objectives and activities of the GRC;
- Work in collaboration with the community radio station of Radio Shabab FM in Birzeit area;
- Participate in the realization of the radio programs about the condition of Palestinian women and radio spots which will be broadcast by Radio Shabab FM and local radio in the Gaza Strip;
- Follow up the discussion forum online about topics dealt in the GRC;
- Follow up the GRC activities and cover them;
- Realize interviews from the GRC activities and upload them in the website;
- Prepare audio reports for the community radio station and web site and edit sound files.
- Raise subjects that will be taken from the GRC members and beneficiaries interviews on the web site and the radio.
- Direct the production of the final promotional video of the GRC.
- Follow up and coverage of news from Gaza.
- Undertake other tasks/responsibilities as requested by the Project Coordinator of the GRC and the Project Manager.
The Communication Officer of the GRC plays a central role because a strong action of sensitization and information is essential to promote the GRC start-up and make it known to the local population and also to support it later and to inform about the activities realized in the GRC, its spaces for knowledge and deepening themes and principles that underlie it.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- The Communication Officer of the GRC should be a woman, resident in the Gaza Strip
- Hold at least BA degree in Media and Communication, or related studies.
- Have at least two years working experience in communication field, radio is preferable.
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
- Excellent computer skills of MS Office programs, Publisher and PhotoShop.
- Be able to realize interviews and audio files about the GRC activities.
- Knowledge and experience with uploading materials to websites and internet.
- Knowledge in audio editing programs.
- Strong interest in Women’s rights and Knowledge in women situation in Palestine.
- Reporting and redaction skills about gender themes.
- Creativity skills for the production of the materials needed for the promotional campaign.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Reactivity, anticipation, adaptability, capacity to take initiatives and to work autonomously.
- Ability to work within a team and in different hours.
PREFERABLE:
- Experience in working with international NGOs
- Driving license
