Position: Communication Officer

Location: Gaza Strip

Reports to: CoP

Global Communities is an international development non-profit organization. Our mission is to create long-lasting, positive and community-led change that improves the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable people across the globe. 

Global Communities is seeking a Communication Officer to support a USAID-funded Household WASH program in Gaza. This program, initiated three years ago, will continue for an additional two years. Its primary objective is to enhance human health, environmental well-being, and livelihoods in vulnerable communities by improving access to safe domestic water and sanitation facilities. Priorities include: 1) Providing durable solutions to vulnerable communities, such as the establishment, extension or rehabilitation of water distribution networks and sanitation systems at the household and neighborhood levels; and 2) Increasing emergency WASH preparedness interventions to mitigate and reduce rainwater and sewage flooding risks in vulnerable communities.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Take the lead in developing, managing, and maintaining social media platforms and content as required.
• Create content for various channels, such as social media, websites, newsletters, press releases, and other distribution platforms.
• Prepare comprehensive media activity reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
• Plan, design, and manage social media content and production to enhance engagement and reach.
• Develop and draft factsheets, press releases, and social media content by gathering information from credible sources and supporting the production process.
• Assist with project documentation and visibility efforts, including creating success stories, photographs, videos, branding, and related materials.
• Provide support in finalizing project reports as needed.
• Ensure adherence to donor, Global Communities, and partner branding and visibility requirements.
• Review and approve all external visibility materials, both programmatic and administrative, to ensure compliance with branding standards.
• Design and implement communication strategies to deliver accurate, timely, and impactful messaging.
• Generate high-quality content, such as reports, articles, press releases, social media posts, and multimedia materials.
• Engage with local, regional, and international media to promote the organization’s initiatives and priorities.
• Support internal communications and contribute to donor reporting efforts.
• Collaborate with program teams to document and highlight success stories and conduct needs assessments.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the direct supervisor

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Business, Journalism & Media, Public relations, or related fields.
• Minimum of 3 years of similar experience in donor-funded projects in a communications-related role.
• Experience in communications, design, photography, audio, or video content creation and editing and managing different social media platforms
• Ability to contribute to a small, proactive team, motivating staff and working collaboratively with colleagues and providing support and advice as required.
• Previous experience in professional writing for progress reports.
• Strong understanding of the socio-political context of Gaza and the challenges of working in a conflict zone.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Proficiency in digital tools and platforms, including social media and graphic design software.
• Full Professional proficiency in spoken and written English and Arabic are required.
• Excellent Computer skills (Microsoft Office and other online applications).
• Good communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team. 
• Capable in planning and problem solving.
