Are you enthusiastic, creative and well connected? Do you have experience working with both
traditional and new social media? The British Consulate General in Jerusalem is seeking to recruit
a Communications Manager. We particularly welcome applications from journalists. The successful
candidate will be expected to:
-Ensure that communication is fully mainstreamed in the activities of all sections of the Consulate
General (policy; projects; visits; events; commercial) and the wider British Government effort (British Council and DFID).
-Take ownership of the Post’s communication strategy and lead on our public diplomacy campaigns and new digital outreach strategy (web site, Facebook, Flickr, twitter etc). Identify and craft our main messages, the key audiences and the tools with which to reach them.
-Arrange press engagement for British Government Ministers and senior officials
-Become the Consulate General’s expert on the Palestinian print, TV, radio and web-based media.
-Liaise closely with Palestinian media professionals, deploying accurate information and
messages, proactively and reactively through background briefings and ‘’on the record’’ TV, Radio and Print interviews.
-Manage two budget lines according to FCO procedures and best practice, ensuring that spending offers value for money and is linked to the Communication strategy.
Skills / Knowledge
-Knowledge of local media circles
-Understanding of local political and media context
-Professional communication skills
-Arabic and English spoken and written skills
-Interpretation and translation
-Communication strategic planning, and project management skills
-Web publishing skills plus new social media skills , Facebook, twitter, Flikr, YouTube
-Budgeting/project management
-Fluency in the Microsoft Office suite
