Communications Officer

Job Summary:
The communications officer takes the lead in promoting Anera, its brand, its people, its mission, and its successes among internal and external audiences in Gaza. The incumbent is responsible for documenting Anera projects and the impact of the organization’s work through human interest stories, photographs, films, and press releases, which are featured on anera.org, print materials, social media channels, donor reports and fundraising pieces. The officer is an integral part of Anera’s global communications team and works closely with program staff in Gaza to ensure comprehensive coverage of activities.

Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and write stories, reports, and marketing collateral to communicate the impact and value of Anera's work in Gaza.
- Maintain and grow a photo and film library for Gaza that documents and celebrates Anera's work.
- Cultivate positive working relationships with journalists by providing quick response to media requests, informative interview sources, and timely updates on breaking news. Pitch stories, when appropriate.
- Maintain a media contact database, routinely auditing for accuracy.
- Ensure all external communications and collateral in Gaza follow Anera's branding guidelines.
- Coordinate coverage of Anera's work with program staff as well as photographers and videographers.
- Work collaboratively with global communications staff members to identify messaging needs and create content for use in external communications.
- Assist in collecting and creating content for institutional and individual donor reports.
- Serve on task forces and carry out special assignments.
- Work independently, including resolving most problems, coordinate work with others, and determine the best approaches and techniques to get the job done.
Expected Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field plus three or more years of relevant experience; or seven or more years of public relations, communications and/or journalism experience.
- Proven ability to write compelling human interest and news stories and demonstrated photographic ability
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and maintain regular contact with media representatives
- Fluency in English and Arabic, spoken and written
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance as well as within a team
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic working environment juggling multiple projects
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills required
- Demonstrated competence in social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube preferred.
- Experience with (short) film production is desired
- Proficiency in Google Workspace; ability to use Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Light Room a plus
- Driver’s license
