Consultancy – Young women’s political organizing

1-Organization

The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation is a Swedish grant-making organization that supports partner organizations in Israel and Palestine who work to empower women, build women’s leadership and organizing, and address violence against women. Our headquarters are in Stockholm and our local office in Beit Hanina, Jerusalem.

2-Position

Kvinna till Kvinna is looking to recruit a consultant who will work with us to develop our programmatic work with young women´s political activism in Jerusalem, and its surrounding areas. The intention is to build on KtK’s existing experience of supporting young women’s sustainable political engagement and expand it to take on a more long-term approach. Funding is available for the implementation of the 2014 piloting project work.

3-Duration/Content

The aim is for the consultancy to run during most of 2014, but the exact number of months dedicated to the work can be negotiated. The consultancy should be conducted in accordance with the following methodology:
1)Desk review of available material (studies, analysis, researches, media accounts, etc.) pertaining to young women and political activism
2)Participatory approach consisting of regular contact, consultations and engagement with young women activists both individuals and groups convened during the consultancy period.
3)Consultations with relevant others such as members of women’s rights organisations, female politicians, etc.


The consultancy will consist of three  phases: (1) Need, interest and risk assessment; (2) recommended interventions and support based on the assessment; and (3)  hand over for the continuance for the work by Kvinna till Kvinna staff.  The aim is for the consultancy to begin in March 2014.

3.1-Description of the phases:

The consultant is expected to recommend interventions and support to inform the programmatic work of Kvinna till Kvinna on young women´s political activism in Jerusalem, and its surrounding areas.  A mapping of relevant actors, structures, and activism;  and needs of young women activists and their interest should serve as a basis for the development of the recommendations.  Additionally, the consultant should make a risk analysis pertaining to the political activism of young women and recommendations on how to mitigate the risks identified. Finally, the consultant will deliver a final report to Kvinna till Kvinna containing the assessments; the corresponding recommendations; and an action plan on continued support to young women activists taken all of the above into account .

3.2-Consultancy and activities implementation:

The implementation of the consultancy work should be listed in a work plan and include activities identified as relevant during the implementation of the three phases identified above and in line with the methodological approach described. The consultant will be responsible for planning, administrating, facilitating and implementing of the activities including the convention of young women activists for consultations, and stimulating activities such as screening documentaries, receiving guest lectures, hosting trainings and workshops,  and reporting of these activities every second week.  Kvinna till Kvinna should be included as strategic counterpart in the planning process and be informed according to plan (tbd for each activity). Kvinna till Kvinna will monitor the implementation of activities in the work plan. Additional budget is available for implementation of activities.

3.3-Reporting and hand over

The consultant will submit a progress report to Kvinna till Kvinna every second week and a final report, including the assessments; the recommendations on interventions and support; and a plan of action on how to continue to support young women activists until 2016. The plan should be detailed and developed in part together with target group.  The consultant is expected to include Kvinna till Kvinna staff in the development of this plan and it should be drafted during Sep-Oct 2014.

 

4-Deliverables
-Work plan including activities
-Bi-weekly written reporting to Kvinna till Kvinna on consultancy and activities implementation
-Regular budget reviews and follow up, in accordance with KtK regulations
-Data collection including detailed mapping and assessment and corresponding recommendations on interventions and support including risk analysis and mitigation
-Consolidation of the data into  a final report and action plan (with expected results and indicators), and a budget on how to continue to support young women activists  until 2016

5-Qualifications
-University Degree in Social Sciences, Law, or Gender Studies; 
-Minimum of 3 years working experience in working for women’s empowerment, preferably young women (under 35 yrs.);
-Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English obligatory; 
-Personal and professional commitment to promoting women’s rights;
-Driving license preferred.

Financial framework

Payment details will be entered into the contract.
Scope and Timeline

The aim is for the consultancy to begin in April 2014. The consultant is expected to work part time (50%) for a period of up to 10 months.

Kvinna till Kvinna will provide the consultant with an office space.
