Consultant/Trainer
“Leaders in Influence” Training
 



Background:

The Partnerships with Youth (PWY) project provides educational and leadership opportunities for youth aged 14-29 throughout the West Bank by creating vibrant, youth-friendly hubs where young Palestinians can innovate, learn, and develop their talents. The project is funded by USAID and implemented by IREX, an international non-profit organization. The project builds on and expands Youth Development Resource Centers (YDRCs) and is currently working with nine YDRCs in the West Bank to create opportunities for active learning and innovation.

IREX is seeking a trainer and facilitator for the “Leaders in Influence” training program, which is designed to provide selected youth with advanced leadership and advocacy skills, teach them to work with other youth in their communities to design and implement advocacy projects based on community needs, help them to coach one another in implementing and reflecting on the implementation and results of their projects, and to establish best practices and lessons learned for youth-led advocacy efforts. In addition, the “Leaders in Influence” training will establish a youth network across the West Bank that will continue to engage youth in their communities.


Scope of Work:

The “Leaders in Influence” training program will offer classroom training and experiential learning activities to 50 youth from throughout the West Bank. The program consists of four components:

-Pre-Program Awareness Activities
-Conference One
-Intersession Period
-Conference Two

The objectives of the “Leaders in Influence” training program are:

-To activate leadership potential in youth through the exploration and application of cognitive, social, and psychological youth-development competencies;
-To foster self-efficacy for youth implementing influence projects in the Palestinian context and to reinforce the value of participating in a network;
-To build youth capacity to collaborate in teams and positively influence their communities through advocacy and opinion leadership projects;
-To support youth leaders to shift their mindset from actors from the margin of society to actors at the center where they proactively lead efforts for positive changes they care about;
-To challenge youth leaders to implement influence projects in their districts;
-To assist youth leaders to collaborate and connect meaningfully across the districts of the West Bank.


The trainer, in consultation with the PWY team, will complete the following tasks:

-Review and update the existing training materials and establish a schedule for all components of the program;
-Review results of the pre-program awareness activities;
-Conduct the first three-day workshop;
-Provide coaching and assistance via email, phone, Skype, and site visits to 50 youth during the intersession period (approximately 4-8 weeks); and
-Conduct the second three-day workshop.

Outputs/Deliverables

The trainer will produce the following deliverables and outputs:

-Final draft of training materials;
-Schedule and agenda for all components of the training program;
-Two three-day training conferences;
-Written feedback on up to 50 youth projects in coordination with the PWY team;
-Eleven site visits (one visit to each district) in coordination with the PWY team to assist youth in the implementation of their influence projects; and
-Final training report with a summary of all activities, discussion of successes and lessons learned, and recommendations for next steps.

Qualifications/Requirements

The trainer/consultant should have:

-Extensive knowledge of and experience with youth development projects and best practices;
-Previous experience implementing similar or related leadership training for youth;
-Demonstrated experience with the development and implementation of community development projects and initiatives; and
-Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Arabic languages.

Proposed Duration of the Assignment:

Period of the assignment will be from October 2 through December 31, 2016. The total number of consulting days anticipated for this assignment is up to 27 working days.
