Country Director

Position: Country Director
Place of duty: Ramallah with frequent travel to Gaza. No family duty station.
Duration: October, 2016 - 31 December, 2018 with possibility for extension
Reporting to: Regional Director

IM Swedish Development Partner (IM) is a Swedish development organisation fighting and exposing poverty and exclusion operating in five regions worldwide. The organisation was founded in 1938 to defend human dignity, as a reaction against the fascist ideologies, hatred and violence that spread in Europe at the time. IM has been working in the Middle East since the late 1960s in the area of intellectual disability. At present IM Middle East works with partners in Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon in the areas of disability and women’s rights. A regional office was established in Amman in 2014 and there are country offices in Amman and Ramallah.

In Palestine IM is working with partners in the areas of rights of persons with disabilities, economic empowerment and women’s rights. Other components of Palestine program work are inclusive education, sexual and reproductive health and support to civil society. IM is in the process of handing over self-implemented service delivery in the disability field to local partners in the Gaza Strip.

The Country Director (CD) will be responsible for the successful implementation of IM’s programme. CD will have the overall responsibility for the operational and strategic planning, country budget, partner portfolio and development of work in Palestine. CD will manage a small and dedicated team and should have excellent team-building, interpersonal and communication skills. In addition CD is expected to work actively with resource mobilisation and possible portfolio expansion.

The position requires extensive experience from development cooperation particularly in supporting civil society organizations as agents of change, preferably in the fields of IM Palestine’s areas of work and/or other work experience from the region. A successful candidate will have a strong commitment to fighting poverty and exclusion, sharing IMs approach to partnership and rights-based development cooperation. The position requires the ability to work in both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip as well as having a minimum of 5 years management experience. Strong analytical and networking skills as well as excellent English is essential.
