Background
Oxfam is currently implementing a Disaster Emergency Committees (DEC) funded project titled ‘Opening the space for enhanced food security and livelihood recovery in the Gaza Strip’ under the food security and livelihoods programme in Gaza. The project targets vulnerable and war affected households in the Gaza strip. It includes cash programming, rehabilitation of livelihoods and piloting opening spaces for livelihoods for women. The project start date is February 1st 2015 and has 18 months duration.
Oxfam seeks to hire a trainer (Contractor) who will provide specialized trainings to the selected cow breeders, referred to as ‘beneficiaries’, within the project.
Tasks and deliverables:
The trainer is expected to conduct 2 phases training sessions as following:
1-Phase 1: Literacy training which includes: (8 hours for each group – two sessions)
Animal husbandry- Dairy cow quality - Animal reproduction management - Animal nutrition - Fodder supplements
2-Phase 2: Specialised training which includes: (8 hours for each group – two sessions)
Dairy cows’ nutrition - Feeding mixtures & ratios - Quality of milking process - Care centres and grouping bodies
The technical consultant is expected to deliver the following outputs:
-To prepare a detailed work plan that identifies the dates of training per group and phase
-To update the work plan on monthly basis, and submit a monthly progress report
-Training final report which includes (progress, feedback , recommendation and follow up plan)
-Baseline and end line report
-Develop training material for printing and distribute to the breeders
-Coordinate activities with DANIDA project team when relevant
-Trainer will have to prepare training materials and have it approved by Oxfam team.
Time Frame and location
-Trainings are expected to be delivered starting from, and within the period of, October 20, 2015 - April 30, 2016
-Services are expected to be provided in a total of 128 working hours within the above mentioned period, and according to project work plan and coordination with DEC officer
Qualifications
Graduate degree in agriculture, animal production/nutrition/husbandry
-Proven experience in dairy cow farm management
-10 years experience with minimum 5 years in ruminant production/husbandry
-Ability to introduce and train husbandry techniques (calendar, records...etc) to local farmers.
-Strong knowledge of quality requirements
-Fair knowledge of Gaza strip dairy sector context and the value chain gaps
-Fair knowledge of group working/cooperatives/clusters system benefits.
How to Apply:
Interested trainer/company/team should submit an expression of interest comprising:
-A cover letter of no more than 1 page introducing the trainer/company/team and how the skills and competencies described above are met. The cover letter should also reflect the number of days to complete the assignment (as per phase’s details within the TOR) and total financial offer (cost). The cover letter should also indicate trainer/company/team availability for the proposed period.
-Trainer or company/team members names with CV of each member.
-A proposal for how will approach this assignment (no more than 3 pages) including a technical offer (key considerations, proposed outline methodology, deliverables and detailed schedule) along with a detailed financial proposal/budget.
