Craft Branding Mentor (Consultant)
Background
Turquoise Mountain is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 2006 to revive traditional crafts and historic areas and to provide jobs, skills, and opportunities through cultural heritage projects. By blending heritage buildings, education, and enterprise, Turquoise Mountain has created sustainable heritage places and livelihoods that support the revival of artisan industries. Turquoise Mountain now works in Afghanistan, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, and the Levant. Since 2006, Turquoise Mountain has restored over 150 historic buildings, created employment for thousands of artisans and builders, built over 50 small businesses, and supported and generated over $17 million in sales of traditional crafts to domestic and international markets.
Turquoise Mountain Levant works in Jordan, Palestine, and the wider region to support cultural heritage. We connect hundreds of artisans to new and sustainable markets, provide training and education in traditional crafts, and lead sustainable regeneration projects of historic buildings.
This Role
Turquoise Mountain seeks to engage a talented and experienced Craft Branding Mentor (Consultant) to support our branding program. The consultant will work closely with 15 artisans working in various traditional Palestinian crafts to develop and enhance their business branding. The focus will be on creating/upgrading a cohesive visual identity for each artisan based on their individual branding needs. The goal is to ensure that the artisans’ branding elements align with the Palestinian cultural heritage and reflect their visual identities.
Responsibilities:
- Rapid Needs Assessment and Consultations:
- Develop and conduct a rapid needs assessment to assess the artisans’ branding requirements in relation to their craft techniques, vision, markets, etc.
- Review existing branding elements of each artisan, if any, i.e., logos, business cards, social media assets, etc., to identify areas for improvement and provide suggestions.
- Communicate with each artisan through consultation meetings to present and discuss branding suggestions and get their endorsement for improvements.
- Visual Identity Upgrading and Development:
- Design or upgrade key essential branding elements for each artisan aligned with their needs, such as logos, color palettes, fonts, social media assets, business cards, labels/stickers, and others that reflect the artisan’s visual identity within the Palestinian cultural heritage.
- Support each artisan to fully understand their branding approach, messaging, and story that meet their targeted audience and communication channels.
- Integration of Feedback:
- Guide artisans on the effective use of the newly developed or upgraded branding elements across platforms (social media, marketing channels, etc.).
- Incorporate artisans’ feedback to refine branding as needed.
- Presentation and Reporting:
- Present finalized branding elements to the TM team for review and approval.
- Make needed adjustments based on the feedback.
- Submit a completion report in English detailing activities, deliverables, and outcomes with open-source branding elements developed/upgraded for each artisan during the assignment.
Contract Duration
- The assignment will be completed over 15 working days, 8 hours of one-on-one mentorship per artisan.

Qualifications
- At least 3 years of practical experience in branding with a strong portfolio highlighting previous work, particularly in visual identity support.
- Proven expertise in utilizing design software is essential for the development/upgrading of branding elements.
- Expertise in logo design, color theory, typography, and other branding elements.
- Strong understanding of Palestinian cultural heritage, with the ability to incorporate these elements into the artisans' branding.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and closely with artisans and Turquoise Mountain team members.
- Good command of spoken and written English and Arabic languages.
- Solid knowledge of the craft ecosystem in Palestine.
Location
- The consultancy will be implemented in the Bethlehem and Hebron Governorates.
