DIRECTOR, AL-QUD BARD PREPARATORY PROGRAM
Al-Quds Bard College invites applications for a dynamic individual who will join our administrative team as the full-time Director of the Al-Quds Bard Preparatory School (“AQB Prep”) in Abu Dis. This innovative program, which is slated to open on a small scale in fall 2024 and to grow towards enrollment across the 7th-12th grades, will be located physically within the Arab Institute School adjacent to Al-Quds University. The program is designed to bring the style of learning that characterizes the post-secondary tradition of the liberal arts and sciences - including a focus on developing critical thinking and a strong commitment to student-centered teaching - to younger students. The Director will be part of the staff and work closely with colleagues at Al-Quds Bard College.
About Al-Quds Bard College
Al-Quds Bard (AQB) was founded in 2009 as a path-breaking partnership between Al-Quds University and Bard College. Through this dual-degree partnership, AQB students earn degrees that are both US and Palestinian accredited, in a course of study centered in the liberal arts and sciences. AQB awards undergraduate degrees in the liberal arts and sciences as well as the graduate Master of Arts in Teaching degree.
About the Bard Early Colleges
Bard Early College, a division of Bard College, leads the most prominent global network of early college high schools. Bard Early College’s premise is to begin serious university study in place of the traditional 11th and 12th grades. Students are taught by college faculty in undergraduate, seminar classes, all deeply rooted in a commitment to excellence in teaching.
Position Objective and Duties
The Director is the school’s academic and administrative leader. The Director’s core responsibilities include: 1) ensuring that AQB Prep meets Al-Quds Bard’s high standards of academic rigor and student achievement; 2) facilitating smooth, regular, and effective collaboration with partners and with Al-Quds Bard regarding all aspects of program management, including school operations; 3) leading the recruitment of students, including parental engagement and community outreach; 4) leading the faculty in designing and delivering a student-centered, intellectually inspiring academic program and ensuring the implementation of Al-Quds Bard’s Writing & Thinking pedagogy across the curriculum; 5) fostering a campus culture of intellectual engagement, individual responsibility, and creativity; 6) leading the program staff and faculty; and 7) teaching responsibilities within AQB Prep and/or Al-Quds Bard College, to be determined based on qualifications and needs.
The Director reports to the AQB Prep Academic Council, which is chaired by the Dean of Al-Quds Bard College. The Director collaborates regularly with colleagues across Al-Quds Bard College, Al-Quds University, and the Arab Institute School. The Director will be an integral part of the Al-Quds Bard College community. In this way, the Director will bridge secondary and post-secondary learning environments and responsibilities.

Qualifications
The Director must lead a program that will eventually offer instruction within the Arab Institute School from the 7th grade through to the end of high school, including transitional early college seminars. As such, the Director’s professional and academic experience should span both secondary and post-secondary teaching and administration, and, where relevant, scholarship.
The successful candidate for the position will possess the following characteristics and qualifications:
- Graduate degree (PhD Preferred)
- Relevant teaching experience
- Relevant leadership experience
- Very strong organizational and management skills
- Very strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience in and commitment to working with adolescents
- Fluency in both Arabic and English
