OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The objective of this project is to contribute to the successful and sustainable reconstruction of Gaza and relief of the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Its primary aim is to provide legal, financial and technical support to the most vulnerable IDP households with totally destroyed houses, to establish and protect Housing, Land and Property (HLP) rights of IDPs and to promote security of tenure and then with the provision of cash grants and technical support, to reconstruct quality and sustainable homes.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Role objective:
Under the direct supervision of the Logistic Manager, the incumbent is required to ensure provision of reliable and secure driving by driving vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items between the sites.
Due to frequent sites visits and meeting with communities, the incumbent need to show very good knowledge and understanding of all Gaza Strip, interpersonal and communications skills to interact with the population, as well as proficient English to facilitate International Team communication and understanding.
Expected output:
The main responsibilities of the Driver are to:
-Ensure provision of reliable and secure driving services by driving vehicles (soft-shell and AVs) for the transport of authorized personnel and -delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items between the sites.
-Ensure cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the -vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
-Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance and cleaning of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely -changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
-Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, and map of the city/country, -first aid kit, and necessary spare parts.
-Ensure that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
-Maintaining customer confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential
-Actively support the PM during site visits, facilitating Arabic-English communication, understanding of situation on the ground and facilitating -intercultural mediation;
-Contributing to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed;
-Perform other functions as may be assigned by the PM
Project reporting:
-Report every movement into LOG-book
-Report to the supervisor on any accidents and damages to vehicles;
-Conduct and report on regular vehicle spot check
Team management:
He/ she will be working along with other team members
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Education:
Completion of Secondary School education.
Work experience:
Minimum of 4 years of demonstrable relevant Transport experience.
Geographical experience:
Minimum of 4 years of experience in Middle East with local experience in Gaza is an advantage.
Languages:
Fluency in Arabic and English are essential.
Key competencies:
-Proficiency with computers in particular MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and Internet to report accurately and professionally about vehicle movements, consumption, checks, etc
-Ability to work in a team
-Able to work efficiently with minimal direction
-Strong work ethic and prepared to work additional hours – if needed - to ensure operations
-Very good knowledge and understanding of all Gaza Strip, driving with confidence also in remote Areas
-Good communications and mediation skills to build strong relationships with internal and external actors
-Proficient spoken English to facilitate International Team communication and understanding during activities
-Pro-active and problem solving approach
-On time and rigorous about work assets and premises
-Remains calm, in control and good humored even under pressure
Other relevant information:
-At least 4-5 years of relevant experience as a driver with safe driving record;
-Previous experience in driving armoured vehicles will be a plus
-Knowledge of driving rules and regulations
-Skills in minor vehicle repair;
-Driving License.
-Valid Category 3 Trucks and passenger bus driving license.
-Keen sense of ethics and integrity in dealing with colleagues.
-Prepared to work additional hours to ensure timely delivery of Project.
-Ability to work efficiently in a team environment.
-Displays initiate and ability to work independently.
-Experience in UN or NGOs is highly preferred.
-The incumbent must be mentally and physically fit
-The incumbent must have a clean criminal record
-The incumbent is required to perform additional evening hours if required.
-The incumbent must have a valid Category 3 driving license.
