The Program / Department / Team (Program / Department Summary)

Operations Department provides key support to the entire country program in procurement, asset management, warehouse management, fleet management and facilities & office management for successful program implementation. 

The Position (General Position Summary)

The driver will provide safe transport services for Mercy Corps programs and support staff in the described AOR (Area of Responsibility). The driver will adhere to all traffic and MC safety rules and follow the transport guidelines required by the MC transport department.

Essential Responsibilities

SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively learns about safeguarding and integrates it into their work, including safeguarding risks and mitigations related to their area of work.
  • Practices the values of Mercy Corps including respecting the dignity and well-being of participants and fellow team members.
  • Encourages openness and communication in their team; encourages team members to submit reports if they have any concerns using reporting mechanisms e.g., Integrity Hotline and other options.

POSITION/ TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Operate MC vehicles as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain vehicle log-sheets in accordance with MC policies/regulations.
  • Check the vehicle conditions after each trip/routinely – report needs and problems to supervisor.
  • Adhere to all safety and communication protocols as advised by Mercy Corps and supervisor.
  • Responsible for the safekeeping of all vehicle equipment, tools, first aid kits, spares etc.
  • Keep the vehicle ready, clean and on standby – ready for use at all times.
  • Assist, as required, with logistics in MC offices and guesthouse daily workloads.
  • Cooperate and be of assistance to MC staff and visitors.
  • Report all maintenance needs of the vehicle to transport management on a regular basis.
  • Undertake field assignments as assigned by supervisor.
  • Adherence to all MC policies and procedures as outlined in MC policies and procedure manuals.
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission in country of operation.
  • Other duties as assigned by Mercy Corps and supervisor.

Accountability

Reports Directly To: Operations Officer

Works Directly With: Logistics Coordinator – Jerusalem, Operations/Admin Assistant – Ramallah

Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

  • Valid driver’s license and experience in driving.
  • Must respect and adhere to all safety and traffic rules.
  • Basic understanding of English and fluency in all local languages is required.
  • Knowledge of routes, project areas, the NGO and diplomatic community is required.

Success Factors

The successful Driver will assist logistics and vehicles fleet tasks in delivering successful programs while demonstrating excellent stewardship of donor funds and compliance with Mercy Corps and donor regulations. They will maintain strong cooperative relationships with other departments and interact effectively with international and national personnel both in a managerial and training capacity while demonstrating the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and process information in support of changing program activities. The most successful Mercy Corps staff members have a solid commitment to teamwork and accountability, thrive in evolving and changing environments and make effective written and verbal communication a priority in all situations.

 Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

The position is based in (Ramallah), and it requires frequent travel to support country programs, which may include travel to insecure locations where freedom of movement is limited and areas where amenities are limited.
