BACKGROUND:
In October 2011, the IRC started its first program in the Palestinian Territories. The program focuses on promoting Healing Classrooms (HC) in public schools in Ramallah through teacher training, mentoring and general support, and is seeking an Education Manager.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Education Manager will report to the Program Coordinator and will be responsible for initiating, implementing and monitoring the programs. This includes identifying target schools and trainees, conducting Healing Classrooms trainings, providing face to face and distance mentoring, and monitoring program quality.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The employment period will be split into program start up, training and mentoring, and monitoring, as follows:
January-March 2012
-Solicit, analyze and rank applications from head teachers.
-Tailor site selection forms to the context, conduct on-site assessments of top 15% of applicants, and select schools and trainees therein.
-Become proficient in Healing Classrooms (HC), ensure its translation, and help tailor the Training Learning Circles (TLC) HC course to the context.
-Conduct HC trainings, support TLC and liaise with Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) reps as appropriate.
April-June 2012
-Support TLC and liaise with MoEHE reps as appropriate.
July-September 2012
-Revise HC TLC as a result of monitoring
-Evaluation
REQUIREMENTS:
-Bachelor’s degree in education, Masters’ degree preferred.
-At least 5-10 years’ experience with education in emergencies, teacher training, early child development or distance education, preferably in the West Bank or Gaza.
-Strong understanding of the primary education system and the MOEHE in the West Bank.
-Strong training, strategic planning, organizational and communication skills.
-Experience developing curricula, especially for adult education.
-Familiarity with ICT and education tools.
-Fluency in Arabic.
WORK ENVIRNOMENT:
This position is based in Ramallah and Jerusalem with frequent travel to monitor and support schools in and near Ramallah.
