Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Officer (EEO), West Bank

Background   

Turquoise Mountain (TM) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 2006 by His Majesty King Charles III to revive traditional crafts, and historic areas and to provide jobs, skills, and opportunity through cultural heritage projects. By blending heritage buildings, education, and enterprise, Turquoise Mountain has created sustainable heritage places and livelihoods that support the revival of artisan industries. Turquoise Mountain now works in Afghanistan, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, and the Levant. Since 2006, Turquoise Mountain has restored over 150 historic buildings, created employment for thousands of artisans and builders, built over 50 small businesses, and supported and generated over $17 million in sales of traditional crafts to domestic and international markets.  

Context   

Turquoise Mountain Levant was established in Jordan in 2018 and leverages the cultural heritage of Jordan and the wider region to train and educate in traditional crafts, deliver sustainable heritage-led regeneration for communities, and connect hundreds of artisans to new and sustainable markets. This is an exciting time for the project, as we are growing our operation to support Palestinian artisans, engage Palestinian communities in their heritage, and open new livelihoods in the craft sector. 

This Role 

Under the direct supervision of the Enterprise and Training Manager and in a close cooperation with the other project team members, The Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Officer (EEO) will support the Palestinian artisans and young entrepreneurs, helping them to build financial and operational sustainability and ensuring reliable incomes for them and their families.   

Responsibilities 

  • Support the mapping and selection process of artisans and young entrepreneurs alongside other TM functions and project team members; 
  • Contribute to the assessment, design, and delivery of training/coaching/mentoring sessions covering entrepreneurship, business ideation, creation, and development to the target artisans and young entrepreneurs. Session topics will include but are not limited to the business cycle, market assessment and analysis, productivity planning, marketing and financial planning, profit analysis, digital sales, e-commerce, design-thinking skills, product branding, and pitching skills; 
  • Conduct market research to identify new business opportunities for artisans and young entrepreneurs; 
  • Provide continuous technical support and coaching/mentoring to the target artisans and young entrepreneurs to ensure that they prepare and implement high-quality and feasible business plans; 
  • Develop and maintain a database with up-to-date information about the target artisans and young entrepreneurs and track their progress and challenges on a regular basis; 
  • Coordinate with the other TM functions and project team members to map key relevant stakeholders including donors, institutions, and potential investors to create synergies, market linkages, joint actions, and partnerships;  
  • Support artisans and young entrepreneurs to be linked with other specialized business development and support services including access to finance; 
  • Support the provision of legal frameworks and procedures regarding business creation, development, registration, and institutionalization;  
  • Support the awareness raising at the local level to ensure the Palestinian craft is preserved, passed on, and protected; and  
  • Support the documentation of all the support provided under the position responsibilities in cooperation with the other relevant team members including data collection, surveying, reporting, success stories, testimonies, etc.

متطلبات الوظيفة
  • Minimum BA in business administration, economics, finance, entrepreneurship, or any other relevant field; 
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in training/coaching/mentoring, and technical support in at least one of the following topics: entrepreneurship, value chain analysis, digital sales, e-commerce, market assessment/research and linkages, partnerships, and business ideation, creation, development, and institutionalization; 
  • Excellent communication skills in Arabic, and a good command of written and spoken English language; 
  • Problem-solving, negotiation, analytical and creative thinking, and ability to influence others; 
  • Familiarity with data collection and analysis tools will be considered as an advantage; 
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and to travel around the West Bank when needed; and 
  • Proficiency in using MS Windows, and MS Office packages. 

Contract Duration 

  • Full-time contract, Sunday – Thursday (40 Hours Per Week). 

Location 

  • The duty station of The Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Officer (EEO) will be based in Bethlehem City.  

Salary  

  • Competitive – based on experience.
